DE Chase Young (Nagurski, Hendricks, Bednarik, Silver Football, NFL DROY, New Orleans Saints)

Watch the throne

Nick Bosa being out for the game was noticeable. It’s hard to fill a void left by an All-American defensive end. But, Chase Young, in his first real test anchoring down the end position, did some serious work against Trace McSorley and the Penn State offense. He recorded six tackles, two sacks, and three tackles-for-loss in the victory. That includes the game ending stop in the final minutes.

Earlier in the game, Young deflected a pass on fourth down. If it would’ve gone through, Penn State would’ve had yet another scoring chance. But no, Young closed the door on that. His heroics on defense, in conjunction with Wade’s play, were the real defensive bright spots against PSU.

Chase Young Was All The Buckeyes Needed Him To Be… And More

IMG_8401.jpg

It was a game full of ups and downs, good and bad plays, questionable calls, and back and forth play.

In Ohio State’s comeback 27-26 win over Penn State on Saturday, there were costly mistakes made on both sides of the ball for the Buckeyes.

But one constant contributor, major factor, and consistent player on the field for the Buckeyes was sophomore defensive end Chase Young.

“He was outstanding,” head coach Urban Meyer said of Young following the game on Saturday.

Young stepped up in a game where the defense needed him most; a big game, and a game without their star player in junior defensive end Nick Bosa.

Young showed up hungry to play on Saturday, and he was the difference maker in the game.

But Young not only contributed to the success of Ohio State’s defense, he was the reason the Buckeyes stayed close to Penn State in the first half. It was then that it was Ohio State’s defense carrying the team.

With the struggles Ohio State’s offense faced in the first half, it was the defense that kept the Buckeyes only a few points behind Penn State.

“Hats off to the defense,” Meyer said. “They kept us in this game, as bad as the offense was in that first half.”
