DC Matt Patricia (Official Thread)

I’ve always been more a fan of the O than the D… in football as well as in my own sport, I was primarily on O.

That said, I’ve never in my life enjoyed watching a defense as much as I have this year. Wowza. I’m sure that someone here has said it, sorry for not giving specific credit, but when you have better players you can run a pretty ‘basic’ (that’s the word used, wasn’t it?) defense and still win a LOT of games. We’re seeing what talent combined with higher level schemes can do. It’s real and it’s spectacular.

I've always felt the same about OSU teams, just flip the offense and defense. For various reasons, I've always "liked" teams that were more carried by the defense. 2013, 2018, and 2020 through 2022 were comparative nightmares for me to watch as a fan.

This year's a damn treat to see

Ditto. It feels dirty winning with a weak defense. They signify a lack of toughness and discipline. Plus, it's almost impossible to win a national championship without an elite D, but it is possible to win without an elite O

Always a good combination.

This was a really good episode and seeing Caleb interview Patricia was really interesting. This is a must watch for all fans and it helps build the brand, and show avenues to maximize NIL for recruits. The Downs brothers prepared really good questions to get insights that fans really never get. Getting Youtube clicks and views helps strengthen the NIL pitch to get top recruits here, which is something not requiring a millionaire donor with NIL to help
Holy smokes, this has worked out as one of the best hires of Day's career.
Definitely. I'm more excited to see the defense than the offense and that's saying something for me. I'm glad it was the right culture fit because Patricia is a defensive genius.

I’ll second this. Moreover, I’d highly recommend their podcast overall. Downs2Business, I think it’s called. It’s really great on so many levels… Brothers, elite athletes, thoughtful and articulate young men… Hat is off to Mr. and Mrs. Downs.
