DC Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

SOS drivel…
Its drivel to grow weary of hearing the same tired line after being shredded defensively for the last 5 games in a row against a top tier opponent?

Well let me ask you, when do you need to show you can stop the bleeding?

I like JK

But at some point it’s gotta stop and this year he has the talent to do that.

Or….do you mean it’s JK’s drivel?

Is there any justification/validation to the consideration that Knowles and Johnson are not aligned, and therefore, Jim is hand-cuffed/limited in the schemes that he would like to play? It's been stated consistently over time by The Podcast personnel.

FTR, I'm not excusing the poor defensive play as it rears its head. I'm simply wondering if there might be some different causation within it.

I’ve been so hesitant to call for a head. If I’m in a forced choice situation here, I’m asking for LJ’s. Too much talent on the DL to have it play like that. Especially the DEs.

LJ & Jimmy need to be sent packing. He was LBs coach and still kinda is. LBs were all out of sorts and if Jimmy is the HC of the defense wtf was Walton and Gur(whatever the rest of his name) doing. The one guy was brought in to implement the system because he had coached with Jimmy. And if LJ has been insubordinate to Knowles for the years and Day did nothing then that’s an even bigger problem

If Johnson is undermining the DC he should be fired. No ifs ands or butts, and I've loved him being here for the most part.

His DL has grossly underperformed in all big games with zero pass rush because none of them have seemed to develop any kind of pass rush arsenal. Bull rush. That's it. If the Oline withstands that bull rush, then the Dline gets stuffed and the QB has a month to throw. It's no surprise that guys have been getting drafted based on potential and then light it up; Jones, Cooper, Harrison etc. I am not sure he can get credit for the Bosa's and Chase Young because those dudes are freaking aliens and didnt need coaching in the first place. JT has regressed a ton.

There are other problems with the Defense no doubt but the improvements the past couple years, since Coombs, have been evident except for rushing the passer. Oregon was all over Howard and we should have at least matched that.

The only pass rush move any of our DEs have is an outside bull rush so our opponents just use their momentum against them and run them around the pocket now, giving the QB room to step up in the pocket and a lane to run if necessary. It's remarkably lazy coaching on our end.

Exactly. On almost every defensive down I see the OL just keep them out of the kitchen. They just use the DE momentum to let them push down field and keep them from engaging in the play by letting them overrun.

I think Johnson’s coaching fell off a cliff a while ago and was just masked by the absolute freakish talent of the Bosas and Chase.

Guys like Dre’Mont Jones, Jonathan Cooper and DaVon Hamilton went from being underachievers to NFL starters once they got out of OSU.

JT and Sawyer look as undeveloped as Harrison and Cooper did.

He’s been coasting on the success of three guys who would’ve put up numbers anywhere they went.
