DC Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

Stokes is never going to take a snap as a LB. Never. That’s absurd.
OSU just signed two 5 star LBs, one that used to be in Tacketts year, but sure, let's latch on to the spitballing about Stokes being a hybrid.
Sadly I agree.
You spelled gleefully wrong.

About a kid you are not sure about, no less.

I think you’re being a bit dramatic.
I don't remember ever reading about a coach fawning over a recruit like this recruitment was reported. Knowles went to LA four times and, reportedly, went on about how Curtis was the perfect LB and would be the linchpin of the defense. It’s not embarrassing to lose one, not even to USC, but it is to lose one after you’ve been publicized about being way over the top about him.

And you believe everything you read on recruiting sites and message boards?

The LB depth is going to be an issue for a year or two, meaning we have too many vs not enough. 10-12 LBs for 4 spots in the two deep is not going to be very appealing to the play now generation especially with at least two amazing players in the last cycle. If Knowles doesn't recruit like Hartline I don't care as long as I see a Defense that attacks the way his last two years at Oklahoma St did.

Did you see the defense last year?
Yes I don't think getting beat by the same play over and over and watching a linebacker chase someone in motion to open a huge hole in the middle was a player issue. Could we use better players who doesn't but a lot of that trash last year was scheme and lack of adjustments.

Freaking out cause you missed on your top guy is going to leave you dead of heat attack in under 5 years if your name is not Bama

Thinking about last year’s defense gives me even more reason to relax about the current direction of the defense.

What we know is that it was awful in spite of having had better athletes on it than the vastly superior Oklahoma state defense

we don’t know for sure that this year’s defense will be better, but I believe there is reason to consider that probable

we don’t know that the two 5-star linebackers that we brought in this year will be any good.

we don’t know if the linebackers we bring in after them will be any good

and we most certainly do not know if the defense would have been better with the guys that chose other schools. You can call it likely all day, but you don’t know. Just like I can say it’s likely that the defense will be good enough for the Ryan Day offense to outscore anybody.

We’re looking at the same information. Some will see it and be pessimistic; some will see it and be optimistic. The one thing either of us don’t have is enough information to react to seasons that haven’t happened yet. I don’t have enough information to paint the end zones. The pessimists don’t have enough information to burn their Buckeye gear and start following lacrosse.

The most severe pessimists quit this board a long time ago, so this is not likely to apply to many who are still here; but if losing a recruit feels like losing a game to you, you might want to reevaluate whether you have the right temperament to follow recruiting
