DB Shaun Wade (1st Team All American, New England Patriots)

I'm guessing Justin Fields will be calling to wish Shaun a happy birthday, among other things. Ultimately he has to do what he thinks is best for him.

This season could stop again as quickly as it restarted. These same people are still making the decisions. Who knows what will trigger them?

That's a good point but unless I'm missing something, I don't see much downside to coming back to keep getting trained by Coombs and going up against some of the best WRs in the country even if the season is cut short. His agent will be there whether it's in November or February and I think the NFL is pretty well aware of Mr. Wade. He absolutely needs to do what's best for him but objectively it seems returning would probably be best for his draft stock and training absent a potential injury.

Not having game film this year of him playing outside may cause a few organizations to pass on him as the 1st, 2nd or 3rd CB taken in the draft. So even a partial season could vault him up into the top 10 if he balls out. The best training is on-field training. So with B1G football returning..... I think Shaun ultimately decides to return as well.

Two sides to this:

1.) Wade is already a top 10-15 pick (I think it was either Kiper or McShay who has him as the top CB and around #7 or so overall), so he has little if anything to gain by returning.
2.) Not playing a season before the draft can hurt him by having some other CBs ball out this season and jump ahead of him, in addition to not having any "recent" game film.

That doesn't even take into account the possibility of injury. So, I wouldn't blame him if he stayed "declared".

But the fact he waited so long to declare (only after it seemed highly unlikely there would be a B1G season, and after a teammate had also declared) leads me to believe he will come back if he's allowed to.

He has to show scouts that he can be a lockdown outside cover guy in addition to being the uber nickel back guy. That's why he came back and that's what is in it for him to play another season. It's actually quite a bit, imo. He demonstrates that kind of elite versatility and he's not a 10-15 guy anymore, he's a top 5 guy like Okudah.

No inside knowledge obviously but that's what I think his plan was pre COVID disruption.

Shaun largely came back, because a guy he was extremely comfortable with, through his recruitment and first year at tOSU, was coach Coombs. And Coach Coombs was coming off a hugely successful stint as DB coach for the Titans.

The whole purpose of Shaun coming back was to develop another year, and play on the outside. That was the game-plan. I understand Covid has thrown a monkey wrench into that, and I think the idea of working out for the combine at home in Jacksonville has become somewhat appealing.

I'd just say, I think for his NFL development and long-term success, coming back and playing for Coombs would be extremely beneficial. There is some risk in that if he struggles even a little outside, his draft position could slide towards back half first round where NFL evaluators view him primarily as a nickel corner.

Agreed, he showed enough skill set to garner a top 15-20 pick but lets be clear, he excelled against opposing teams #3 receiver but now everyone wants to see him against opposing team's #1 guy. If he is as good as we all think he is, we might not see much of him as teams will be trying to test Sevyn Banks

This is certainly true at first, and will remain true until 7Sevyn proves himself. Arnette and Okudah only got as many opportunities as they did because QBs had to decide which first-rounder to challenge. Shawn Springs won a Thorpe award and was a high draft pick with zero interceptions. We didn't see much of him that year, but the NFL scouts got to see the All-22, and they saw plenty
