DB Malcolm Jenkins (All B1G, All-American, Thorpe Award, All-Pro, 2x Super Bowl Champion)

I thought the talk on Malcolm going into the draft was that he wasn't fast enough to cover at corner? For a guy who wasn't quite fast enough to play NFL corner, he was right up on the line all night and he stayed right with his guy for the most part.

Way to go Malcolm!

Saints' Jenkins back on track following ankle injury
by Bradley Handwerger / Eyewitness Sports

METAIRIE, La. -- For much of the week leading up to New Orleans' Monday night game against New England, the play of Wes Welker was the talk of the nation.

After all, the sixth-year receiver out of Texas Tech was coming of a 15-catch, 192-yard performance against the Jets.

By Tuesday morning, Saints cornerback Malcolm Jenkins made all conversations about Welker null and voice. Jenkins limited the standout slot receiver to 32 yards on six catches, the longest being a 10-yarder.

Yep, Jenkins' training camp holdout and midseason ankle injury certainly seem like a long time ago now.

"He played well last week," Saints Head Coach Sean Payton said. "There were a couple of illegal contacts, but I thought he graded out well. He's doing a good job."

The rookie from Ohio State - New Orleans' first-round pick in April's draft - is proving every bit capable of playing the pro game physically and quickly.

But he's also playing it humbly for the 11-0 Saints, who play the Redskins (3-8) Sunday at noon.

Jenkins wouldn't accept credit for shutting down Welker in the Saints' 38-17 win.

"I lot of the time we had bracketed coverage on him," Jenkins said. "We doubled him a little bit. Sometimes we'd play single and our pass rush was able to get to the quarterback. If he did throw it, it was normally a shorter route and we just tried to limit his yards after the catch and just made sure once he caught the ball, to get him down."

New Orleans Saints vs. Washington Redskins - Recap - December 06, 2009 - ESPN

Didn't get a chance to watch the game, but he's a Rookie and will only progress. He led the team with 9 solo tackles.

he dropped an almost certain pick six.
was a quick hit out to the flat, and campbell missed his target wide.
happened so fast, I don't think Jenkins was ready for it.

the Saints secondary has been rocked with injuries the last few weeks.
bad enough that thier calling up guys sitting on their couches (McKenzie & McAlister). Jenkins has filled in quite nicely, and has been a pretty good special teamer as well.

He has been thrown to the wolves, and done as good as can be asked of a rookie. He should continue to improve and become a pretty good DB by the time he's finished.

Rising stock: Malcolm Jenkins, CB, New Orleans

Rick Gosselin/Columnist

When starting cornerback Tracy Porter hobbled off the field with a sprained knee against St. Louis Nov. 15, the Saints did not need to look very far for a quality replacement. The Saints used a first-round draft pick last April on Malcolm Jenkins, the Thorpe Award winner as the best defensive back in college football in 2008 at Ohio State.

Jenkins had been biding his time on special teams for the Saints, making nine tackles, forcing two fumbles and recovering another. At 6-0, 204 pounds, Jenkins proved to be a physical presence in the kicking game, and he's been a boon in run support since his arrival in the starting lineup four games ago.

Jenkins had eight tackles in each of his first three starts against Tampa Bay, New England and Washington. He also intercepted his first career pass against Tampa Bay and has broken up five others.

Good teams overcome injuries, especially when there's a first-round draft pick waiting in the wings.

Coaches, teammates want New Orleans Saints rookie Malcolm Jenkins to stay aggressive

New Orleans Saints rookie Malcolm Jenkins downs a Thomas Morstead fourth-quarter punt at the 2-yard line, which led to Anthony Hargrove forcing a fumble and returning it for a touchdown-sealing victory.

All rookie cornerbacks come into the NFL with bull's-eyes on their backs.

But because of his aggressive nature, New Orelans Saints rookie Malcolm Jenkins has become an especially enticing target for opposing teams.

The physical 6-foot, 204-pounder likes to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage, and he's not afraid to jump in front of them when he anticipates quick passes. That attitude has led to a handful of big-time plays on defense and special teams this year. But Jenkins has also been burned by a handful of double moves in recent weeks as rival offenses are glad to help further his football education.

"In college, I could jump those routes or be that aggressive, but this is a different league, and they're going to take advantage of it," said Jenkins, a former All-American at Ohio State who was drafted 14th overall by the Saints. "They know how to scout you out and things like that. So they've been trying to come at me with double moves, and I've got to do a better job with my eyes and make sure I'm looking at the right keys ... And at times you've just got to be patient and choose your battles."

Word out of New Orleans is rookie CB Malcolm Jenkins, who has started the last five games, will be battling for playing time at nickel back by the time the playoffs get under way, unless injuries force him to continue as a starter. CB Jabari Greer is expected to return from sports hernia surgery in time for the Saints' first postseason game, and he would take the starting job back, leaving Jenkins to compete for reps with backup Randall Gay.

Malcolm Jenkins: D (2.33) The Bucs found Jenkins wherever he was on the field, and victimized him over and over and over again. Especially late when the Saints needed stops, huge chunks of yards were given up by the mediocre at best Tampa Bay receiving crew. His tackling was thankfully solid otherwise he may have looked even worse, but the bottom line is the guy is a liability out there right now and he's being picked on unmercifully. He finished with 10 tackles, largely due to the amount of action coming his way.
