DB Malcolm Jenkins (All B1G, All-American, Thorpe Award, All-Pro, 2x Super Bowl Champion)

Yup.. the fact that he has any stats at all is impressive. He makes a play every time he can. Sometimes there are just perfect throws/perfect routes that nobody can defend. If it's not perfect, he makes a play.

I was never a fan of Malcolm playing safety. But I'm not a coach.. so..

I find it funny that you mention this in this discussion specifically since one of the reasons Eric Berry plays safety is so that teams can't specifically avoid, as they might if he were to play corner. Much of the difference in impact comes down to scheme.

Berry's a freak but he's also playing on a terrible team. Maybe that will help MJ. I really hope we have another Thorpe to sell to recruits!

The way I see it, the fact that Tennessee is a losing team helps Berry even more, to have a guy playing at such a high level on a loser team, this guy is awesome, I absolutely hate the SEC, but this guy is clearly an impact player, he reminds me of a young Ed Reed. Malcolm reminds me of a young Rod Woodson being a cornerback/safety hybrid. It depends on the position they have in the draft, but I actually hope the browns take Berry

Berry is a true sophomore, isn't he?

Congrats to Malcolm on being named a 1st team All American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

Malcolm has become a rare 2-time first team All-American. The list of those is included in the 2008 All-American Lists thread.

Berry is a stud. Can't imagine how good the D would have been these last two years with him and Malcolm in the same secondary.

Yes, it does. Not really sure what you're saying here.

Rod Woodson was a pure corner early in his career. Only after he had severe knee injuries did he completely reinvent himself into a safety. Great, great player (and a great guy).

Malcolm is going to be such a stud in the NFL. I really can't remember a CB whose skills, on paper, translate so well to the NFL.

Think about last years first round cb picks...

Leodis Mckelvin
Dominique Rogers-Cromartie
Aqib Talib
Mike Jenkins
Antoine Cason

....and Malcolm was rated ahead of all of those guys had he decided to come out.

Malcolm is going to be a very special player at the next level too, IMO

AND all those guys are BALLERS in the NFL right now.

Malcolm is going to be the next Chris Gamble, Antoine Winfield, Nate Clements, etc etc.

My point was exactly as it was stated. Like I said, some of it comes down to scheme but it is ironic, in my eyes anyway, for you to not like him (Jenkins) at safety and then compare him to a player who is a safety rather than a corner specifically because he can have more of an impact at safety.

sportcenter tonight.

He had Stafford going #1 to Detroit.
Then can't remember if it was KC or Cincy taking Crabtree
Either KC or Cincy taking Andre Smith
Then the Rams taking Malcolm

I can't link the show unfortunately.

Apologies for taking this off topic (I couldn't find a Stafford thread), but any GM that takes Stafford #1 is an idiot. I remember hearing Kiper getting all over his jock, but I just haven't seen it. He does throw a good ball, and I think his WR corps is below average, but I haven't seen a game in his career where he leads his team to a hard fought victory. His completion % has been low 60s at best, and his ypc is low. If a team is looking for a QB to make an immediate impact, I think Stafford is a terrible choice. Of course, if DET does take Stafford, I have no problem with that, since I like seeing the Lions being irrelevant. But I just think it would be a wasted pick.

Back to Malcolm, he is by far the best DB in this class. Any team that has a need at CB should jump at him. Should be a career starter, and I could even see him playing safety at the NFL level.
