DB Jayme Thompson (Transfer to Iowa Western; Indiana Verbal)

How much of an impact was that broken ankle in regards to Thompson's future as a Buckeye? Would he be higher up the chart had he not suffered that?

Hate to see him leave his 1st choice of school, but I hope he finds the right place to succeed.

Coming into this season he was behind Vonn Bell and Cam Burrows on one side and Tyvis Powell and Ron Tanner on thw other, and we still have Erick Smith and Malik Hooked coming in(not to mention possibly Ben Edwards for 2015). He wasn't going to see much PT besides special teams throughout his career. Not sure the injury mattered that much but it sure didnt help. Im sure the coaches had an honest convo with him and he talked it over with his parents.
Best of luck to Jayme wherever he ends up

Let's not debate the hows and the whys and try to speculate. Just wish him luck and move on.

LJB posted a statistical analysis of the rate of attrition for 4 and 5 star players last summer. The rates of those players even contributing on a team that has 4 and 5 star guys as a norm isn't very high when compared to the overall number. Just accept it and let it go.

Good luck Jayme. too bad it didn't work out here.

Agreed. When discussing the "why" - Perhaps we could begin to grant the same grace to other programs and coaches too.

Its a New Era in Columbus..How it plays out is ahead of us. Good Luck Jayme! I am sure the coaching staff is honest with these Young men, Mitchell and Thompson.

It sure is a "New Era" in Columbus now. I have many memories of the "Woody - Bruce - Coop - Tressel " era"
The Quality of all those players then, are a different breed. Now we have recruited such talented and gifted players with such athletiscism, that maybe coaches have a hard decision to make on, who is to sit and who is to play. One thing for sure is, I would not want to be a coach in this new era. I remember an old nursery rhymn "There was an old lady who lived in a "shoe" she had so many kids, she didn't know what to do" Kind of corny I guess, but you get the message.

If he were going to receive meaningful reps, I'm sure he wouldn't be transferring...
Some guys accept and embrace that their OSU ceiling will be on special units, and Urban recognizes the value of such players (see Zach Domicone, JT Moore, Tanner. I know Ron has two years left but may never be a starter). Plus you have guys like Hale and Farris who've played both OL/DL to prove their worth to this squad.

I'd be disingenuous if I didn't mention that the five above are Tressel recruits and 4/5 are Ohioans. With Meyer consistently landing top-5 classes that have more of a national feeling to them, maybe we'll see an uptick in guys leaving after their first/second years, feeling they can sit a year, ball out at a 1-A school and get drafted. But every situation is unique and won't necessarily have a 'category' attached to it. Even the two future NFL picks that left did so for different reasons: Jon Newsome essentially being encouraged to go and Jeremy Cash simply not being comfortable with the new staff.

I wish Jayme Thompson the best, he was the guy I was most happy to see on the field this spring after his injury in August. By all accounts, he leaves on the best of terms and it seems he'll have his pick of schools.

I am not endorsing or criticizing UFM and his WAY..just that the results will play out in the next few years...and it isnt always wins and losses. As for now I trust the staff.
