Ohio State Confirms DB Jamie Wood Attempting Comeback
By Brandon Castel
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? It sounded for a little while like Jamie Wood was done with football. Probably because he said he was done with football.
The safety out of Pickerington Central underwent his second major shoulder surgery back in January and it appeared his playing days at Ohio State were likely over. The former U.S. Army All-American has battled injuries for most of his career with the Buckeyes and there was talk of a medical shirt for the fifth-year senior.
Instead, Wood will suit up for the Buckeyes this spring as he attempts to make another comeback from shoulder surgery. We had been hearing for a while he was going to give it another try, but the news was confirmed by an Ohio State spokesperson on Monday.
Shoulder issues sideline two
Shoulder injuries have sidelined two fine young men on the football team: Jamie Wood, a fifth-year senior safety from Pickerington, Ohio, and fourth-year junior cornerback Adam Griffin, from Columbus.
Wood was trying to come back this season after multiple shoulder surgeries. He already has his bachelor's degree in strategic communications and his next step is graduate school. He played in 30 games, including four games last season before re-injuring his shoulder. He played in all 13 games in both 2010 and 2011 and he had 20 career tackles, including 11 solo stops.
Jamie Wood is a former safety for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2010-2014. The Pickerington, Ohio native graduated in 2012 and now serves as an Assistant Director of Compliance. Wood took OhioStateBuckeyes.com through his gameday experience during the Buckeyes football game against That Team Up North.
