DB Eugene Clifford (official thread)

Im not a 'doom and gloom' type of poster, but if we do not land Clifford then this class is a disappointment.

Hes called by some the best player to ever come out of southern Ohio, and safety will be one of our weakest positions on next years team.

Same thing with Barksdale.

Well, Eugene is still a Buckeye, and if he changes his mind between now and signing day, then we will still have (potentially) our 2nd national championship in 4 years, and we will still have top-notch recruits that want to be a part of that winning atmosphere. I don't know who wouldn't want to be a part of the special program that Tressel has built.

It appears that the chicken little's out there have taken my comments and run with them...

so...let me clarify.

I said that I would be shocked if Gene didn't wind up a Bearcat with Kerry Coombs. I can confirm through sources inside of Colerain that Gene will be taking a serious look at UC. But I did not say that Gene to UC was a done deal...The reason I say I would be shocked if he didn't go to UC is because I know Kerry Coombs and how he works with kids...kids love playing for him and would walk through hell in a gasoline suit to play for him. I am pretty sure Gene is one of these players....HOWEVER...Gene will make a decision that is best for him. I do know Gene was looking forward to being a Buckeye and he was as blindsided by this as the rest of the Colerain community...

I have been wrong before and I only posted the info to keep everybody in the loop...I apologize if I started a false alarm...I was only voicing my opinion about Gene and UC.
mia culpa.

Clifford to UC?

Colerain all-American defensive back and Ohio State recruit Eugene Clifford hasn't ruled out the possibility yet. His high school coach, Kerry Coombs, on Sunday took the defensive backs coach job at UC. Asked on Monday if he'd consider decommitting to OSU and joining Coombs in Clifton, Clifford responded "I'm not sure yet," calling the move a "slight" possibility.

Clifford said he hasn't discussed the decision with Coombs yet.

Chances are, Ohio State coaches are already doing everything they can to make sure it doesn't happen. And Clifford said, a commitment to UC might be a possibility, but it's a very slight one.

From the Coombs article:

Eugene Clifford, a senior on Colerain's football team, called his former coach "a great motivator. He's been great for the community.
"He taught us to keep our heads up, and he got the community to support us."
Clifford plans to attend Ohio State University and play football in the fall in Columbus.
Now, he knows someone on UC's coaching staff. When asked if he's tempted to change universities, he replied: "Maybe."

Nothing new on Clifford front

I spoke with Colerain assistant principal Dan Bolden on the phone a little bit ago and he assured me senior safety Eugene Clifford is still committed to Ohio State.

The Enquirer reported Tuesday Clifford said there was a "slight" chance he would switch his commitment to UC since former Colerain coach Kerry Coombs has been named defensive backs coach.

From the AA game...Clifford squashes the UC rumors and talks about being at the AA game.

Alright, I am going to open this thread back up. I think we can put the UC talk to bed finally.
