DB Dustin Fox (National Champion)

I want to create a vBook event on this one but I need some help on the terms. I am thinking of the following outcomes:

Fox makes first team All Big Ten, but not AA.
Fox is second team AA
Fox is first team AA
Fox achieves none of the above.

If those are good outcomes, whose selection do we use to determine whether he made it or not?

Mili,

QB is a white mans position ! I don't think that's a racist statement. Dan Marino, Joe Montana, John Elway, Warner, Brady, Manning , Thiesman, Namath, Young, Aikman, Farve, and on and on and on...... Yes, their are always exeptions, but certain races have certain characteristics. And whatever it is that a man needs to be a qb, white men have it !

CB is a black mans positions ! If it weren't, this would of never come up during the "Fox" conversation. I hope nobody is offended but the speed and jumping ability needed to be a great corner is plentiful among the negras.

I know that some folks will consider these kinds of statements to be racist but I don't think so. Everybody (ecspecially my black folks) are highly sensitive about this kind of stuff. But that doesn't make them right.

Is basketball a black man game ? Yes ! I know who Larry bird and Pistol pete are, but in the USA, it is a black mans game.

My last statement: Mili you mentioned that if you said "White men should be the politician's" folks would have a cow. And they would, but lets look at that for a minute. Black leaders are exactly that "black leaders". The fail to realize that in oreder to get national respect as a leader, they have to be able to lead everyone, not just black people. Powell is a unversal leader and Black people dog him for it. He speaks english too well or something, I don't know why my people don't support Powell more. I think when we get somebody great, we want em to ourselves or something. I love the man, but until Black people realize that we need a leader and not a black leader, "Presidency" is not yet for a black man ! Now there are cities who do well with black leaders (Columbus), but nationaly, we aren't quite ready.

I think it's accurate to call QB a predominately white position and CB a predominately black position.. that's merely a statistic. But to say QB is a "white mans position" brings with it racial connotation. I know - or hope - that's not what you mean when you say it, but that's the perception, I think.

thebkb,

If I say to you, "We just a verbal from one of the best qb's in the country", what would be the first image of him in your head ? I would think of a 6'3 to 6'6 white guy. Is that Racist or just knowing the odds ?

If I say to you "We just got a verbal from one of the best rb's in the nation", what would be your first image of him ? I would think of a 5'10 to 6'1 stocky, fast black dude. Is that racist or just knowing the odds ?

Everybody has to be so politically correct these days that these statements seem racist but we know that they are not.

ant, both you and I are old-school, and open, in our views, and I agree in principal that certain positions are normally played better by someone of a certain race. Hell, if I see a black guy and a white guy and had to choose one of them for QB and the other for WR, you know I'd make the exact same choice as you, based on what I've seen over the years. However, I'd try to delay that decision if possible to see if the exception comes into play rather than the rule. Look at Brian Hartline coming in, and RS-frosh Tony Gonzalez...they'll be two of the very fastest guys on the team (aside from Ginn and O'Neal...just barely). You wouldn't tell just by looking at them. Dustin Fox plays corner better overall than any of the black kids on the team, despite his lack of pigmentation. Maybe Troy Smith will turn out to be a better QB than Zwick. The exceptions are enough to warrant consideration, and to keep from pigeon-holing a player because of his ancestry.

By the way, you and I are on the exact same page are far as Black political leaders. It's a shame that many excellent Black leaders are being held back more by "their own people" than by other ethnicities.

Setting the racial issues aside - why are we even having this discussion about Fox? I don't mean to throw cold water on the talks, but I think there are PLENTY of other positions that are questionable at best. Dustin Fox has been the CONSUMATE Buckeye.

Out of position? I really don't understand this line of reasoning. The position one plays is their position ... period. It's not like he has been moved from one spot to another just to fill in. Heck, Dustin rushed for over 1300 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior in high school (2500 yards and 38 TDs career) ... maybe the guy should be playing tailback for the Buckeyes. Geez, he was a four year letter winner in track and field (HS) ... OMG, he's not even playing the correct sport at OSU! Sounds silly right?

Dustin has played in EVERY single game (39) during his career at OSU. He has started 28 consecutive at boundary corner. He had the most playing time of any freshman his first year and was voted the Most Outstanding First-Year Defensive Player.

As a sophomore, Dustin led the Bucks with 14 broken up pass plays, 3rd in tackles (84, 67 solo) and was honorable mention All Big Ten. Lead the team in solo tackles.

His junior season Dustin was 4th in total tackles (77) and 2nd in solos (55). Second in broken up pass plays (9) and 3 ints. He racked up 365 minutes of playing time, second most of all Buckeyes. Earned second team All Big Ten.

In addition to a stupefying 40 inch vertical leap and 7 career interceptions, Dustin has been named a CoSIDA District IV All-Academic both his sophomore and junior seasons and is a 3 time OSU Scholar-Athlete. Dustin has been named to the Thorpe Award watch list for this upcoming season.

What is not to like? Dustin plays hard and smart. He is a leader. He is well spoken and humble. He has done nothing but give his all for OSU on the field AND in the classroom. He is a scholar-athlete in the truest sense and we should all be proud to call him a Buckeye. IMO, anything less from us, the fans, is embarrassing.

Yeah, I think that's what I said.. Statistical reality v. talking about it in "politically correct" language.

Yeah, you guys are probably right. It's a wierd facination some folks have. Kind of like Maurice Clarett. I mean that horse was beat to death for so long folks were actually hitting bottles of glue. This will probably go the same way.

The reason is fox is a natural saftey, i say that over and over, jsut as bellasari was a natural saftey, and was forced into playing cornerback. I cut these guys the same slack that i cut cie grant when he was moved from olb to saftey. Im as big as fox hater out there as anybody, it has nothing to do with his skin color. It is do to the fact that he is an average big ten saftey in my opinion. The reason he gets so much pub, Tressel. Sure will allen came up huge multiple times last year, but based on every play salley had a better season, so why was salley not an all american? Hes not a senoir. As much as i dont like fox hes good and though he was the worst player on the NC team, though every guy on that team except for him will be suiting up on sundays this fall. THAT IS WHAT THE ISSUE COMES DOWN TO, fox is a great player among the greatest defense or one of the greatest in the country this year and in the case of the last two years, the greatests of all time.

among the greatest defense or one of the greatest in the country this year and in the case of the last two years, the greatests of all time.

Even though he may have been switched to corner because of a then-lack of talent at the position doesn't mean he is a "natural" at his previous position. You say he's "average" at his "natural" position, yet he makes 2nd-team all-conference in his "unnatural" position, and is projected all-conference there again and is on the Jim Thorpe Award watch list, one of only 14 cornerbacks in the country on the list.

As for our defense over the last two years being the greatest of all time, not even close. Our defense of the 1973 and 1974 seasons gave up 193 points over those two seasons (64 in 1973 and 129 in 1974) for an average of 8.4 points per game, and never gave up more than one TD in any regular season game during those two years. They also allowed a single TD over a seven-game span during the 1973 season. Those defenses were absolutely unreal.
