DB Dustin Fox (National Champion)

i dont think nwestern does what it did if fox is playing.....i dont think wisky scores seven every time they are in the red zone if fox is playing....i dont think every opponent completes 90% of their third and 10 or more if fox is playing.....
ok.....but we still have a shitty offense.

i love fox and cant understand anybody that says he shouldnt play.....but he isnt the reason we win or lose.

if we have fox back there or not....our run game still sucks. say we win those 2 games because of more inspired defense........are we really that much better off? we would still be masking our terrible offense with Ws.
Are we better off? I say HELL YES that would make us 5-0 and still giving our offense time to grow in which it deperately needs. We knew this coming in that the QB and running game was going to have to ride the defenses back for some time. And even though we looked great last week we still saw a few sparks against a very good Wisky defense. I saw on several occassions where we actually gained more than 1 to 2 yards on run plays. Unfortunetly we got away from that and went to a passing game that had a bad day thats all. Every week you go back and look at the games and each and every game there are settle improvements here and there we just need to start putting them all together in one game. Some of you people piss me off all you can do is look at the bad side of everything. Do you realize had the bad non fumble call actually been called and the bad interference wasnt made that we would of probably won that game. Yes, I know that is just the way the games go but me saying that is looking on the bright side of things instead of acting like the world is coming to the end. And, realistically losing 14 player last year did you really think we would run the table.

jesus.....are we better off aside from being 5-0? geniuses.
No offense BN27...but wins trumps all other stats and all other measures of a team's success.

Are we better off than 5-0? I guess our ranking would be better, but aside from that no. But being 5-0 is powerful mojo and is hard to "put aside".

Just win. I hope Fox is ready, we need all the bullets we can put on the field, regardless if they are DBs, OL, RBs, QBs, whatever. A couple of plays short of wins the last two weeks, IMO Fox can pick up those plays by forcing a punt on third and long or making a pick somewhere else in the game.

Laugh it off by pointing out he doesn't play on offense....but recall that there is no better friend for an unproductive offense than the kicker, the punter, and the defense. 2 out of 3 isn't good enough, I for one hope Fox equates to 3 out of 3 and a Buckeye W over Iowa.

They are way down in their depth chart at RB...you have to think they will try and throw the ball. Fox might give up 3-7 yards on a completion, but he limits YAC...there are very few 3rd and longs converted to his assingment. I miss that.

Just to be clear since I know that this is directed toward me. I never wanted to bench Fox, I wanted him to play safety. His leadership and tackling skills would have worked well there. His coverage is what I thought was weak, and still do, because I have had nothing to prove me wrong (although I admidt his improvement prior to the injury was good). The two corners we have been playing, cover skills I do not see a problem with. Fox, Shawn Springs, or even Deion Sanders in his prime I don't believe could have stoped Wisconsin's touchdown receptions this past week. Those were just perfectly thrown balls, and when that happens it is hard to stop.

In fact I would say that the tackling problems have had a lot to do with Salley and Whitner trying to blow people up and head hunt vs. hit wrap drive plant. This would help make my point even more, as to why he should be playing safety.

JMO

Wisconsin only drove down the field on us twice, and although the 3rd down passes were killers there big plays (other than the two touchdowns) came on the ground. Your corners generally are not used in run support that much, although it is a plus, but safeties are suppose to be able to come up and make a stick if necessary. Our safeties need to learn than you can still blow someone up with a form openfield tackle.

I don't know what you want in a corner. Fox has never been beat deep and gave up fewer TDs to his man than Gamble did both in 2002 and 2003.

As for our current pass defense, we might as well call it "Pillsbury", 'cuz it's soft as the doughboy. We lost Saturday because they converted huge on third and long time after time after time by finding the soft spot (pun definitely intended) in zone coverage. Shit, even I could've got open in that coverage. The next time we have someone 3rd-and-12, jam the damn receivers and send a LB on a blitz. They had enough time on those plays to allow someone to settle into open areas because we weren't sending enough players on the rush. I don't care if you have seven in coverage (secondary and all three LBs), if you play soft zone and don't put pressure on the QB, you'll give up first downs every time.

Maybe if Snyder gets his ass up into the coaching booth, maybe he'll get to see in real time just WTF is happening on the field.

nation...i agree that fox cant help the offense....

but the miserable defense would be greatly improved.....i dont think nwestern does what it did if fox is playing.....i dont think wisky scores seven every time they are in the red zone if fox is playing....i dont think every opponent completes 90% of their third and 10 or more if fox is playing.....
ah... but he CAN help the offense... by stopping the other team, the offense has a chance to get on the field and get something going... by stopping the other team, the Offense does not have so much pressure put on it to score every time they get the ball...
