Bryant mending
Coach Jim Tressel said freshman nickel back Christian Bryant underwent surgery on his infected foot.
Bryant had what was considered a case of athlete's foot escalate into a serious infection that required hospital care at the OSU Medical Center all week. Tressel said the good news is that Bryant should be back on his feet in a couple of days, but he had no forecast for when Bryant might be able to practice.
Tressel said there was no indication that Bryant's problem had anything to do with the environment in the team locker room, which is routinely deep-cleaned. No other player has been afflicted.
He said backup linebacker Dorian Bell remains out this week after suffering a concussion a couple of games ago.
"We're very conservative there," Tressel said.
Christian Bryant is still in the hospital. Hope it will be today or tomorrow. Foot doing fine, Tressel said. 6+ weeks bfore he can play.

Notes on the Buckeyes from Jim Tressel's news conference today:
* Ronnie Bryant, the father of Ohio State freshman defensive back Christian Bryant, said his son is expected to be released from the hospital either this afternoon or Wednesday following surgery last week on an infection in his right foot.
OSU coach Jim Tressel said today Bryant will be out at least six weeks, and Ronnie Bryant said his son is aiming to return for Ohio State's bowl game.
Bryant said the bacterical infection, known as cellulitis, began in midweek before the Buckeyes played at Wisconsin, but Christian Bryant believed he could play through it. After the Wisconsin game it got much worse, which led to the surgery and more than a week in the hospital.
Ronnie Bryant said his son will be in a walking boot for a while as he recovers. Christian Bryant watched the Buckeyes' 49-0 win over Purdue from his hospital room.
"It was quite difficult for him to watch the game Saturday," Ronnie Bryant said. "I could tell he wanted to be out there."
Bryant out of hospital
Nickel back Christian Bryant won't be returning to the field anytime soon, but he is out of the hospital.
Tressel said the freshman was released yesterday, 11 days after being admitted for a foot infection that eventually required surgery.
"He's obviously in a catch-up mode academically, but his foot is coming along," Tressel said. "It's going to be a while (until he can play again), but he'll be fine."
