I stopped reading when the author suggested the best way to watch a game was by yourself with a bottle of wine? Was I reading that correctly?

I would much rather watch a football game by myself with my favorite beverage. Watching a game with a crowd takes away from actually watching and enjoying the game, IMO. Most of the crowd isn't watching the game, and the ones that claim that they are watching it aren't actually seeing the game. But, they have definite opinions about what they think they're seeing, regardless of how off base they really are.

I would much rather watch a football game by myself with my favorite beverage. Watching a game with a crowd takes away from actually watching and enjoying the game, IMO. If you think about it - this Superbowl title shouldn't even count. The Saints got to stay in a warm weather environment and their fans didn't have to travel as far to get to the game. They had a clear and distinct advantage. Maybe one day they'll man up and play outside in the snow.

Exactly. The only way it could've been more unfair is if the Saints hadn't left the Southeast to play a game in sixty fucking years.

You have to read the first paragraph. He found himself in the midst of a crowd of people with whom he couldn't enjoy the game so he retired to home.
Not out of preference, but as a reaction to the audience.

Here is some video from the parade last week to honor our late lamented Saints radio personality "Buddy D", who promised to wear a dress if the Saints ever got to the Super Bowl (made it to, not even win it! ). Although Buddy missed that great day by a few years, we promised not to let his memory be forgotten.

Uh - in case the 800,000 people at the Saints victory parade Tuesday night did not convince you, we are our own third world country down here, and don't really care what others think about that.
