Davidson 57, Kansas 59 (Final)

I'm still trying to figure out why Davidson's PG didn't bring the ball up, as he does every other time up the floor. He would have most likely found Curry for the last shot. Regardless, Curry had a great tourney. Definitely a future NBA first rounder.

I will admit that for the last shot in a game you would like one that might be a little closer to the basket but Curry was very well defended on that play and if you rewatch that video Richards was a very wide open and even stepped into the shot. It was not that bad of a shot but I think it is being scrutinized because it was the last shot of the game. Thank goodness it was not an Ohio State game or this server might have exploded:biggrin:

LitlBuck, I called it silly for two reasons. First, they had been taking strain on defense the last ten minutes. Why walk the ball up the floor? Second, and I know Curry got free in a lot of tight situations, he was going to be covered like glue because he was expected to take the shot. I think they could moved the ball up the floor faster, penetrated the key and then either tried to tie it up or take a three with someone more open when the box and one collapsed on the penetrating guard. Maybe silly isn't the word. Maybe stupid isn't. But there were lots better plays than that one.

Exactly! Penetrate and kick, or penetrate and go to the hoop. Either way, that puts pressure on the D instead of letting them all hang out on the perimeter waiting for Curry!

We just disagree a little and that is fine. We both have our opinions and, as I have stated, thank goodness it was not an Ohio State game... basketball or football:biggrin2:

They didn't want to not be able to get the ball into Curry's hands, if that makes any sense. With as tight as KU would've been guarding him, the pass to him would've been impossible.

I'm not trying to defend it, but I can understand the decision. Try to get the ball into your best player's hands with the game on the line. Unfortunately, it didn't work out the way it was intended, which is a huge understatement in itself.

just explaining what they were trying to execute...I don't necessarily agree, but it's what they were trying to do.

Kansas was keying on the 3 point shot b/c a 3 wins the game for Davidson, a 2 only sends it to overtime.

Due to the aggressive perimeter defense, Curry had a read play he didn't execute well enough. If the 3 was there off the pick, go for the win. If the hedge was too aggressive, split the defense and penetrate for a chance to take the game to OT.

I actually think the Kansas defender who slipped on the court threw Curry off. He tried to capitalize on the fallen player, but quickly realized the open player was Sanderson (shooting hand covered in duct tape and a career 50% free-throw shooter).

The play fell apart as Curry realized he needed to make something happen once he hesitated on giving the ball to Sanderson.

Curry ends up double teamed, and the wrong guy takes a 3.

I don't think it was great play drawn up by the coach, but in his mind Stephen maybe gets a look at the win, at the very worst he has 15 foot jump shot for OT. The play just fell apart.

I guess I don't know why Davidson would change their strategy in the most important play and game of the season. Curry had beaten people off screens the entire season. He would most likely have gotten the ball in a favorable position. When he brought the ball up the court, I knew it wasn't going to be good.
