2017 Intro: Danny Clark by The Bank

After watching Clark work out, it's hard to believe he was sitting in an eighth-grade math class two weeks ago. He has the size, athleticism and arm strength needed to compete at a high level. He is definitely a prospect of note in the class of 2017, and a player worth following over the next four years.
Also noted that he will be competing for starting QB on Massillon's varsity team this season.

8th grade highlights:

This one could get interesting...

Hey 86, this seems like the kind of kid that will get offers from Hoke and Kiffen as soon as they see his tape. Do you think our staff needs to show interest as early?

Showing interest and offering a scholarship are not the same thing. Offering a scholarship isn't even offering a scholarship in most cases these days.

Now that Bill Greene wrote that article the floodgates are going to open as far as interest is concerned.

I would be extremely surprised if Ohio State didn't throw their hat in the ring in the very near future if they haven't already. I would also be extremely surprised if he ended up anywhere other than Ohio State if Meyer wants him as his QB- regardless of when or how the scholarship offers are handed out by various schools.

That said, there is a lot that can happen in four years. It will be interesting to see if Mr. Clark continues to grow both literally and as a QB or if he has peaked.

If he hasn't peaked already, Clark could be the top QB prospect to come out of Ohio in a long time. Like I said, it could get interesting...

If it becomes a race to offer a kid who just finished 8th grade then I need to find a new hobby...

Just to be clear, I meant that Ohio State would be at the school and in communication with the player and coaches. Given that it is Massillon, I would be surprised if they aren't already aware of Clark as I mentioned.

As far as actually offering goes, I think most sane coaches will wait to see how things develop over the next several years- and I don't think anybody coming in super early would have an advantage since everyone involved at the school has been through the D1 recruiting process enough to know how the game is played.

Edit:

I think it's silly to get worked up about the '14 class this early in the cycle, so a '17 kid is clearly reaching pretty far. However, just from a HS football perspective a potential freshman starting QB at a program like Massillon is noteworthy. Whether or not he continues to develop into a legit D1 prospect, much less one of the best Ohio QBs in a long time, remains to be seen.

The crazy thing is that even if he doesn't grow another inch he still has legitimate size for a D1 prospect right now. His arm strength looks legit as well.

On top of all that, the coaching he receives at Massillon will be top notch, not to mention the camp circuits and QB 'gurus' floating around that may get involved. The real question will be if he can survive and thrive under the pressure and expectations (and temptations and potential personality flaws) that come with having this much attention on you this early in your career.

The Bank thought it was an appropriate time to introduce him to the world, though, so I figured we might as well get the hype train rolling on BP too.

The last time I saw The Bank start talking about a player this early was a young WR he was very impressed with coming into his freshman year at Wayne...Braxton Miller  Definitely one to keep an eye on, Bank does not just throw out names willy-nilly.

not sure of the rules, but i think they passed a rule when bobby knight offered an 8th grade steve alford a scholarship.

i am wrong often though and haven't been yet today so i probably am way off base here.

I thought Damon Bailey was offered before, his high school freshman year

Team Stream,,, UCLA offered 8th-grader QB Lindell Stone 6 2 190
