Dallas school apologizes for 100-0 win, will seek to forfeit victory

Mike Lupica will angrily talk about the lack of sportsmanship because of this on the Sports Reporters. I played on a couple bad teams in high school and was the end of a couple curb stompings but I took it look like a man. It's a game to have fun and get exercise in high school not some sort of girly man self esteem contest. Only Communists support this sort of thing

I caught part of an interview with the girls on the 0 side of the equation the other day and was impressed with their attitude. One girl was asked if she thought there was a chance she'd ever win a game there (having one year left). She said she didn't know, but they were working hard every day, and they were getting closer every year.

Moving on too quickly to wonder how 0-100 could constitute "closer" to a win...

"On a personal note, I told the coach of the losing team how much I admire their girls for continuing to compete against all odds," Burleson said.

I have to disagree. The administration of the losing school has to ask itself what lessons it is trying to impart to a team of young women without the requisite skill to compete on an even token scale.

I am a big supporter of youth athletics, but this is ridiculous. And not because of any fault of the winning coach.

It's pretty tasteless to run up the score with full court pressing, but firing the coach for refusing to apologize is a fucking joke.

Maybe "Try your best, no matter what"? It would be worse if they said, "We'd field a team, but we know you all suck so bad that we're not even going to have one so you don't embarrass us"...

Well, everyone has someone to answer to...if you defy them you do so at your own peril, and he must have known that. Look at it this way. If we had a player who took a cheap shot at someone during a game and injured them, and Coach Tressel said afterwards "We'd like to apologize to that young man, his family, and the University of X. We've always strived to play the game right and be what football is all about, and we are sorry about this unfortunate incident and wish the young man well in his recovery" and then later the player said "I don't care what the coach says, I ain't apologizin', and he shouldn't have either"...how many more games do you think that player would start?

What are the actions of the administration to which you are referring?

Do you mean simply having a team? If so, the thought that at the high school level the ability to participate in a sport should be removed because there aren't enough superstars to be competitive is truly silly. I know we get a little obsessed about the highly competitive side of high school sports, but at that level, the more kids who want to be involved in sports, the better. And packing it up because you aren't good enough would be shameful. Planning divisions and such is where the miscellaneous factors like school size should be equalized and maybe that could use some adjustment here... but I surely hope you aren't saying those girls shouldn't have a chance to play.

I saw a youtube aboout a girl on the losing side.and she said that her team has already forgottn about it and are just looking ahead to their next game.
It isn't a big deal to them at all.
