  • Dallas school apologizes for 100-0 win, will seek to forfeit victory

DALLAS (AP) -- A Texas high school girls basketball team on the winning end of a 100-0 game has a case of blowout remorse.
Now officials from the winning school say they are trying to do the right thing by seeking a forfeit and apologizing for the margin of victory.

In a statement Thursday on The Covenant School's Web site, the head of school said, "It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened." He went on to say that Covenant has made "a formal request to forfeit the game recognizing that a victory without honor is a great loss."
Last week Covenant, a private Christian school in Dallas, defeated Dallas Academy 100-0. Covenant was up 59-0 at halftime.

A parent who attended the game told The Associated Press that Covenant continued to make 3-pointers -- even in the fourth quarter. She praised the Covenant players but said spectators and an assistant coach were cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.

"I think the bad judgment was in the full-court press and the 3-point shots," said Renee Peloza, whose daughter plays for Dallas Academy. "At some point, they should have backed off."

i read the whole article yesterday - they haven't won a game in 4 years, and there are only 20 girls in the whole school - also said that most the 8 girls on the team have never even played basketball

Wa, boo hoo, a good team won big against a bad team? And the good team is supposed to be sad about it? Sounds like it could have been a mediocre or bad team and it still would have been a blow out.

If you can't take loss, here's a hint, don't get into competitive sports.

I remember my high school getting beat my an Aaron Hutchins led (1994 Ohio Mr. Basketball) Lima Central Catholic (Division 3 State runner-up) team 106-38. Not as embarassing as a 100 point shutout, but still pretty bad. We only had one guy over 6 foot that year, and he was only 6'3". Our starting power forward was 5'8". I wasn't on the team, but don't think that game had any kind of lasting effect on the team. They came back a couple of weeks later and damn near upset eventual Division 4 State Champion Upper Scioto Valley at their place.

If this post had a point it would be that: If you're outclassed like we were against LCC, then take your beating and move on. Pick yourself up and get back in the fight. And stop bitching about someone not taking their foot off your throat when it's obvious that you're not on their level.

If the losing team wants to feel better about themselves, they should play against one of the NBA All-Star teams. Sure, they'd still get blown out, but at least they wouldn't have to face a defense of any sort so they'd probably get on the board.

    Final score: 210-14.

Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in its high school. It is winless over the last four seasons. The academy boasts of its small class sizes and specializes in teaching students struggling with "learning differences," such as short attention spans or dyslexia.

So basically this was a win of massive proportions against a rag-tag group of learning disabled kids?

    Way to go Covenant!

No wonder that you apologized - your prize is to go raid Academy's lockers for left over Ritalin.
