Dallas Cowboys (Official Thread)

Dude went undrafted in 2019, out of football, then the USFL appears in 2022. He wins their MVP award, so the Cowboys give the local (TCU) kid a chance.

98 yard kickoff return, 86 yard punt return. It seems the little man has some skills.

Jerry Jones helped transform the NFL, except when it comes to race

Decades after standing on the frontlines of one of Little Rock’s darkest segregation clashes, the Dallas Cowboys owner has led the league toward new revenue models but has yet to hire a Black head coach

On the first day of classes at North Little Rock High, a crew-cut sophomore named Jerral Wayne Jones found his spot among a phalanx of White boys who stood at the front entrance and blocked the path of six Black students attempting to desegregate the school.

In a photograph taken at the scene, Jones could be seen standing a few yards from where the six Black students were being jostled and repelled with snarling racial slurs by ringleaders of the mob. At one point, a Black student named Richard Lindsey recalled, someone in the crowd put a hand on the back of his neck. A voice behind him said, “I want to see how a nigger feels.” The ruffian hostility succeeded in turning away the would-be new enrollees.

The confrontation occurred 65 years ago, on Sept. 9, 1957, during the same month that a higher-profile integration effort was taking place at Little Rock Central High in the capital city a few miles away. The story of the Little Rock Nine, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower dispatched federal troops to escort the trailblazing Black students past the spitting hordes, is regarded as a pivotal moment in the civil rights movement. It overshadowed the ugly events unfolding contemporaneously at Jones’s high school on the other side of the Arkansas River — an episode mostly lost to history, though not entirely.

NFL fans left divided over Jerry Jones' explanation over controversial desegregation photo

The Cowboys owner, who was 15 at the time, recently commented on the photo. After the Dallas Cowboys defeated the New York Giants on Thanksgiving night, he said that he didn't realize at the time what he and his classmates were doing. He also emphasized that it is an important reminder to do things the right way. He said:

“That was 65 years ago. I had no idea when I walked up what we were doing. It's just a reminder to me of how to improve and do things the right way.”

Many on Twitter didn't believe that the Arkansas native was unaware of what he was taking part in, while others believed that he was unsure of what he was getting himself into. Opinions were truly split on the image of Jones and his response.

The Dallas Cowboys still plan to have Brett Maher kick in Sunday's divisional round matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, but signed Tristan Vizcaino to the practice squad on Wednesday as insurance.
Maher missed four extra points in Monday's wild-card win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After the game, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Maher would continue as the kicker, and on Tuesday, head coach Mike McCarthy and special teams coordinator John Fassel backed him as well.
But if Maher struggles when he kicks in practice on Thursday and Friday, the Cowboys will at least have Vizcaino ready. He spent part of the 2020 offseason with the club.

The weird thing about Maher is he made 90% of his FGs and 96% of his XPs this season, before Monday's implosion.

It was a bad contract at the time and looks even worse today. It will be interesting to see how they handle Pollard and Zeke. Will they swing for the fences and go after Payton?

Sean Payton has multiple teams interested in him. I can't imagine why he'd want to hitch his wagon to Dak and put up with Jerry's nonsense.

No one else wanted Mike McCarthy. He's perfect for Jerry, and will remain the head coach for next season.

Mike McCarthy explains Cowboys' bizarre final play, says it 'didn't get going' in playoff loss to 49ers

With the ball at their own 24-yard line, Dallas came out in an interesting formation that included zero offensive linemen down in their traditional spots and running back Ezekiel Elliott serving as the center set to hike the ball to Dak Prescott.

And Zeke got knocked back on his ass (i.e. "pancaked")....

Payton has been rumored to Dallas since last year. Can’t remember what the connection was for Payton.

But, yeah agree with on not knowing why he would want to hitch his wagon there.
