OilerBuck: "It has now been determined that baseball is a business first and a sport second. How dare I believe that teams should start on a level playing field?"
Baseball IS a business first. It always has been. Should it be that way? No. But it is. Teams should be on a level playing field, but they are not. You deal with reality, recognize it, adjust, move on, and try to compete the best you can WITHIN reality. Baseball in the Magical Wonderful Mystical Land of OZ is on a level playing field, not here.
And besides, you're a hypocrite: Marshall, Rutgers, and McNeese State don't start on a level playing field as Ohio State. OSU's Athletic Department has more money than any other in the ENTIRE COUNTRY! That's right, you heard that right. They have more resources, the HorseShoe, the tradition, the money, the boosters, etc. than almost anyone else in the Nation. CFB isn't a level playing field by a long shot. Is it still a sport? Is Ohio State "ruining" CFB too? You made the statement, so back it up: Ohio State AND the Yankees have "ruined" their respective sports.
"I can't believe I thought it was wrong that other teams develop young talent in their own farm system only to have to trade it away because they don't have the resources to keep the players."
You're right, it is wrong: but you blamed ONE TEAM for the problem. BASEBALL as a whole made the problem, not the New York Yankees. You're assesment of the problem is correct, your asssesment of blame is completely incorrect.
"You can't argue with results...baseball is fading away! Fewer fans come to the games, ratings are low and the lesser teams trade their talent away to the Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, Astros, Dodgers, Braves, Etc."
No, no, no, my man. If you make the statements, back it up: BASEBALL SET A SINGLE SEASON ATTENDANCE RECORD THIS SEASON!! 2004!! Just because you're down on baseball, doesn't mean the Nation is. There were more fannies in the seats this season than any other. The only blemish on baseball is that the World Series ratings have been down year after year. The Playoffs (before the WS) last year were the highest rated in history, and that's with cable TV in the equation.
"I'm not going to pretend like the Yankees can't evaluate talent...but you can't argue that they don't just plug any holes with a superstar, whenever they need him."
Of course they do. I never argued against this.
"Jealous...heck yeah I'm jealous."
Hey, I give you props for admitting it. But I personally never understood it. I wasn't jealous or didn't hate your team in 1990 when your team were the World Champions and my team was dead last in all of baseball. But hey, that's you and that's me.
"it's considered cheating."
I hate to break it to you my man, but the Yanks haven't broken one rule.
