Criteria for a Successful Season (split from tOSU Recruiting Discussion)

JT was routinely roasted for his mediocre arm and inability to win big games. It became a regular talking point that OSU would've had no chance at an NC with him instead of Cardale in '14, and that he held the program back in '16 & '17. Before these last two years, 70% of the fan base took beating TTUN for granted and saw beating Bama and Clemson as the measuring stick.

He also may have started 2017 at TTUN, but Haskins and John O'Korne had as much or more to do with an OSU win as JTB.

Criticizing him for his throwing was in no way shape or form hating the guy. Everyone gets criticized for whatever they are weak at/mistakes made.

He's just saying Troy is looked at through way more Rose colored glasses then JT.

How many games did we lose with Troy that are just forgotten due to his Heisman year and heroics vs TSUN. As opposed to JT being far more remembered for the games he struggled throwing.

Different Era's different expectations of QBs and the Team. JT under Cooper would have gone down as a god for beating TSUN 4 games. He would have been remembered as a great QB under Tressel.

Under Day/Meyer. He's the 4th best of a hell of a string of QBs

Where were they on Harbaugh up until last year? He was being crucified no less than Day. Smart finally broke through last year. What Championships has Kelley or Riley won? Saban is really the only person in that statement that warrants current respect.
Fine I’m just the messenger never said it was my message .,if you don’t listen to what the natonal concerns are . I don’t care to debate coaches I don’t give a crap about..Day is the OSU coach I care about. Nationally he’s not getting respect. Beat Georgia and scUM universal respect.

Yes, but you are concerned about the national media (especially ESPN) which changes on the whim of a bunch of talking heads. That’s their job, to stir up controversy and up their media profile.

At the end of the day, Day isn’t going anywhere, unless he decides he wants to leave to pursue other opportunities. After the Tressel and Meyer BS (no matter what folks think of that) Gene isn’t running off a guy that runs a clean program and wins at the clip Day does.

I guess that just speaks to how each of us weigh The Game. I don't look back at any of the single losses in JT's career as the defining moment of the season because we beat tsun each of those years. Likewise I don't look back at '18 and think about Purdue (or whoever it was). I just remember The Game and it was glorious. Beat tsun and, pretty much, all is forgiven.

JT wouldn't get the same love today because he couldn't pass well. He would never be a Ryan day QB. I wish Ryan Day could find a thrower with JT's heart/balls and leadership I can tell you that. I think a less accomplished thrower than Stroud that had JT's grit and a 4-0 record in The Game would be pretty damn popular but he'd catch flack for whatever his shortcomings were. That's just the nature of the beast.

I've been saying, 2 straight losses in The Game have made some in the fan bases exceptionally irrational. You would've thought that we root for Rutgers or Nebraska if one were to only look at BP(as well as Bucknuts, Dotting the Eyes/Rivals and Buckeye Huddle) from the late afternoon of November 26 to present.

It’s the 20-years prior to 11/26 that has made this fan base irrational. 11/26 did nothing but expose it for what it is.

Ok

I wish Day would look at more than just arm talent
To be fair, I think 9 out of 10 CFB coaches would start Stroud. It's the intangibles that he may need to be more in tune with.

Maybe that's why he is recruiting guys like Devin Brown and Keinholz. Cocky leaders who bet on themselves.

Who know's?

Day is surprisingly stubborn, which is driving me bananas right now. I want Day to succeed.

Michigan has not had an outright NC in 74 years.
OSU is hoping for their 3rd in 20 years, and 2nd in 8 years.

If OSU pulls it off, it will be viewed as a satisfactory but flawed season, with continuing trepidation about the future. That's a joyless, fun-free world view.
I follow sports for "winning". I get "joy" and "fun" elsewhere in my life.
CFB and message boards have never been about being reasonable.
You acknowledge this and yet chastise fans for being unreasonable?

Yes, it's a given that being a fan(atic) lends itself to unreasonable behavior, like spending decades on a site arguing about trivial things.

I've yet to see many people on here throw up their hands and say, well, this is the realm of the unreasonable, that negates any disagreements or rebukes, have a nice day. Other than to find easier to use ESPN forums.

Obviously it's all trivial and silly. That's part of the religion of college sports, the willful adoption and indoctrination into the absurd. That doesn't stop the righteous defiance, it fuels it .

- Many will call for burning the thing to the ground (or a large portion of it), because they're only in the top-5 of CFB and not top-2.

It has nothing to do with rankings.
Playoffs are a lifeline for Day to salvage the situation, but has absolutely nothing to do with the doubt surrounding him.

And to be clear, it's not his final lifeline either. He has at least one more Thanksgiving until serious talk about hot seats will start.
And by then we shouldn't have a hard time getting in top12, and so he'll have even more lifelines.

But don't get it confused... the loss of faith in the fan base has absolutely nothing to do with rankings.
It has to do with Thanksgiving. It all has to do with Thanksgiving.
