Could Someone Go Julius Caesar / Augustus on the USA Today?

Louisiana and Texas pretty much control drilling in the gulf.

I was being a bit shortsighted by narrowing it down to just Oil and Gas.

after thinking it over and doing some research, these two states would also be able to control roughly half of all good entering and exiting all the countries formed by the current US mainland in someway.

9 of the top 15 (by tonnage per year) ports in the US are in either Texas or Louisiana.
and 14 of the top 20 are dependent upon the Mississippi River which would still be controlled by Texas/Louisiana.

Digging into a bit, this could be a really bloody dispute once everyone figures out how much each region depends on others in day to day life.

Can any of you from Ohio educate me on how valuable the Port of Cincinnati is to that area's economy?
Same question for the Port of Pittsburgh?

Those two ports are both in the top 50 in the US, and both are part of the Mississippi River system and would (in some way) be impacted by a different country controlling the big river.

Other major ports like Memphis, St. Louis, and Minneapolis/St. Paul would also be impacted being directly on the river.

who said we ain't got a Navy?

if this all went down today, we'd have a full Navy, Marine Corp ,and Army before close of business on Tuesday.
they might not be worth a damn, but we'd have them.

Paper battalions aren't quite the real thing.

Depending how things shook out the new nation could end up with quite a bit of equipment (and possibly personnel) on the land warfare side of things. But with the closing of Pascagoula, there is a distinct lack of ships you will have access to.

That being said Ingalls (along with a shitload of other contractors) is a major long term asset, but it takes time to cut steel & lay down hulls. It takes even longer to train folks to effectively man them (look at all the issues China is having). Even more importantly you can't build a fleet when Her Majesty's ships of the Kingdom of Virginia is blockading your ports & turning your shipyards into rubble.

From several hundred miles off shore.

TLAM > Tater's shotgun
Maybe they can make an alliance with Wisconsin. (I think marinette is building lcs's, no?) Then they can roll them across the land from lake Michigan and down the Mississippi.. I'll call this Lake Tanganyika style.

(Not that this is a tactical solution to anything muck is talking about.)

It's a neat exercise though because you know the blocs don't end up just in the wind on their own. And there's more to naval power than just the east coast yards. (I imagine Cleveland And lorain could spin up reasonably quickly) but if you think about it.. Existing production plus strategic need and a somewhat usable artery would bring Louisiana, Wisconsin and Illinois on a mutually beneficial relationship pretty quickly if they had some similar policy goals.

I mean if Ohio hates Wisconsin and Illinois.. Which we clearly do... They can't project past Detroit.

The Freedom class are being built in Wisconsin. The larger (trimaran) Independence class are being built by Austal in Mobile.
