After several hours of grueling work and searching I was able to locate a picture of a Columbus dog sled.

Thinking about joining one or the other. Anyone have any opinions on which one is better?

I have a membership to Sam's Club, but they probably aren't all that different.

I just like feeding the Walton-is-going-to-destroy-the-US machine

Costco has a tremendous return policy. It used to be return any time, no questions asked, but that was abused by so many that they have a few restrictions (on some electronics). However, I still bought my 360 console with a lifetime, walk in and replace warranty.

Huge edge in samples to costco, imo... not just for snacking, but also very useful suggestions. Found some great additions to our meals from those..

I have a membership to Sam's Club and the g/f Costco. The return policy is better at Costco, but I don't really use it for anything that I'd be returning. I mainly just shop for cleaning supplies, some food, sports drinks/ pop and other odds and ends that are cheaper to buy in bulk.

Costco is better known for having cutting edge products while Sams is known to cater to small businesses. In the marketplace Costco is currently kicking Sam's rear end. Their average purchase by the consumer is about $25 more a visit at Costco vs. Sams In addition, the average Costco customer makes 2.5 more visits a year to their club vs. Sams. Doesn't sound like a big difference but given the number of members and the average purchase it is huge.
Costco has a supply chain philosophy of pulling the items into the store (replenishment based on sales history) whereas Sams has a push philosophy (kind of like "pile it high watch it fly"). Haven't really hard of Costco being out of stock on anything but I know it is rare to be out of stock at Sams.

I am a member of Sams because it is way more convenient than driving 15 miles to go to Costco. If distance was not a factor then I might be more inclined to go to Costco.....

Hope this helps....

I hadn't really considered either as a place for big ticket items like electronics. Are you saving much money on those compared to a Best Buy/Circuit City?

Depends on the item. But sometimes you can save a decent amount of money at one of those two places.

If it factors into your decision, Costco has a longstanding history of giving their employees decent wages, benefits and workplace conditions with no longstanding history of labor law violations.

Sam's Club...uhhhh not so much. And if you think you're not paying for Wal-Mart's actions consider that they've been caught holding seminars for their hourly employees on how to take advantage of food stamps, welfare and medicaid.

Also, Costco is spending their own money in federal court to revise the liquor laws that mandate that a bottle of beer, wine or liquor is legally required to pass through a wholesaler's hands. Granted their doing this for sound business reasons, but it will ultimately benefit all retailers, restaurants and consumers in the form of lower prices and greater availability.
