Coronavirus (COVID-19) is too exciting for adults to discuss (CLOSED)

As someone who has been fully vaccinated and boosted, that Hermain Cain incident served as a catalyst for disturbing behavior of people who celebrate anytime someone unvaccinated dies, catches covid, or has some sort of misfortunate occur to them related to their vaccination status.

Some of them have built websites like this:

Tell that to @GeorgeWashington
Yes, this whole deal had brought out a really ugly side of some people. It's as though these deaths of unvaccinated people reinforce their confirmation bias.

It's bizarre to me, but I'm a complete weirdo so maybe that's what's going on here.

I never got a flu shot before but got the booster, so that's my stance on the vaccine and its efficacy. Yet, I have no idea what drives people to celebrate the misfortunes of the unvaccinated with such fervor.

To be fair and balanced (like that one news network) I have seen anti-vaxers react the same way when someone is injured by a vaccine. But it's true, this pandemic has caused a lot of division and really ugly behavior on both sides, from the mask Karens to the "Muh liberty and freedom!" crowd. It almost makes me want to just stay home and lock the doors and not look out. When this all started there was a group of guys playing squash in the park across the street and some elderly couple was out for a walked, masked up. The woman got on her phone and was talking to someone as she pointed to the guys, who are there every Saturday morning, playing squash without masks. It makes me sick to my stomach.

Bill Gates warns of pandemics which could be far worse than Covid
‘We didn’t get the quantity to the developing countries as quickly as we wanted’

As Covid-19 cases driven by the Omicron variant surge across the world, Bill Gates has warned of pandemics worse than the current one.

His comments came as The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and British biomedical charity Wellcome Trust on Tuesday pledged $150m (£109,995) each to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovation (CEPI) in the fight against Covid and to prepare for future pandemics.

The global partnership CEPI was co-founded five years ago during the Ebola epidemic. It co-leads Covax, the initiative to distribute Covid vaccines across the developing world.

Fourteen vaccine projects, including those of AstraZeneca, Moderna and Novavax, were also funded by the CEPI.

“Those vaccines made a huge difference, saving lots of lives and getting out very quickly,” Mr Gates was quoted as saying by news agency AFP.

“But the picture is mixed... we didn’t get the quantity to the developing countries as quickly as we wanted,” he added.

The CEPI is trying to raise $3.5bn (£2.6bn) to drastically reduce the time taken to produce a vaccine to within 100 days.

Mr Gates urged governments to contribute billions of dollars to prevent the spread of future pandemics which could include fatalities far worse than the Covid pandemic.

He added that it had fallen on philanthropists and rich governments to address vaccine inequities and urged governments to contribute more.

“It was at-risk money that caused the trials to take place. So there was a huge global benefit. We’re all a lot smarter now. And we need more capacity for the next time,” he said.

“When we talk about spending billions to save... trillions of economic damage and tens of billions of lives, it’s a pretty good insurance policy,” Mr Gates was quoted as saying by the Financial Times newspaper.

Jeremy Farrar, the director of Wellcome, said at the press briefing that “a truly global response” was needed and urged governments to increase their contributions.

CEPI chief executive Richard Hatchett said the spread of the Omicron variant “over the past two months exemplifies the ways in which we must be ready, both in terms of speed and the scale of our response, to respond to future threats.”

Social media is nothing more than cruelty on steroids.

Tribalism, and the overwhelming need to be right about everything. To me people misread why Americans are generally dumb and schools are falling behind. It’s not a lack of knowledge, there’s more knowledge at everyone’s fingertips than at any time in history. It’s a lack of intellectual curiosity, it’s a lack of self-awareness, and it’s the inability of people to admit they were wrong about anything, to the point they repeatedly double-down until they’re so far down the rabbit hole there’s no light left. AND, and this is where social media comes in, it’s the free availability of an echo chamber to reinforce whatever idea you have with like-minded members of the tribe.

Well said.

It's amazing how many "experts" and pundits purportedly have all the answers to the nation's, and the world', ills these days, yet things are the most dysfunctionally socially that they've been for decades (at least that I can recollect).

There's always been conflict and tension, but it seems to be unprecedented now despite the overabundance of "experts" we have in so many subjects and the access to more information than any time in recorded human history.

Healthcare is a business here, there's no money in preventing these diseases before they get bad. I've become very anti-doctor/pharmaceutical over the years, try to do as much self care as I can. I got the vaccine but I don't ingest any pills or medicines unless I absolutely have to because you're just putting toxins in your body. I let my body go mano a mano with illness and I have come out on top so far.

Congrats on winning! Someone with high risk factors may have a different view, though usually not.
