Covid minor is often talked about as coming or possible if we'd let it try. It's been that way for most of two years.
I think his prediction that a catastrophe is coming is a big assumption meant to sensationalize. I think it's pretty clear that waiting around to see what happens (without vaccinating) is absolutely asking for a disaster, but his hypothetical may not come.
frankly the catastrophe is already here. Foremost in the mental health area and just overall stability of all work forces, not just health care. And the inconsistent messaging is a huge part of that, because while there is tribalism, there's also a much larger contingent of people trying that can't possibly get this figured out.
Most of that article was agreeing with you loudly. Get vaccinated, accept that this can't be stopped, and let's head towards the endemic. But that requires some levity and grace from both extremes.
And it requires leadership to demonstrate humility, grace and wisdom, which includes admitting where our blind spots are. You can't pretend it's nothing, you can't shame people into compliance, you can't pretend you have all of the answers (even if you do, they're suddenly wrong in 1-3 months).
Yes, the catastrophe is already here.
And so are the miracles, the vaccines and the treatments. So, to just toss that aside, he get's into "Oh fuck, what if those don't work anymore" - its intentional and despicable.
