"[T]he Pfizer vaccine is committed to its initial doses going to the EU and the US. And Moderna's supply will be tied up with the US for at least probably the first half of 2021, so in light of that, the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is really good news for the rest of the world," Andrea Taylor, assistant director of programs at Duke Global Health Innovation Center, told CNN.
"AstraZeneca has promised to supply hundreds of millions of doses to low and middle income countries and to deliver the vaccine on a not-for-profit basis to those nations in perpetuity. The vaccine developed at England's Oxford University is significantly cheaper than the others and, crucially, it would be far easier to transport and distribute in developing countries than its rivals since it does not need to be stored at freezing temperatures."

What We Know

We have three effective vaccines: one each from Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca. (Although the latter company cleared the FDA’s bar for effectiveness, its trial results were pretty confusing.)

If the first one, Pfizer’s, is authorized for emergency use by the FDA, it will be available by the end of the month.

Per a CDC panel vote this evening, the first recipients will be health-care workers and residents of long-term-care facilities.

The CDC vote is confusing to me, because the guy on the news yesterday said they were leaving it up to the individual states how to distribute and prioritize the vaccine.

I'm guessing that "essential workers" will pretty quickly be distilled down to "cops, firefighters and any other state/city workers with enough clout to get that spot in line." I just don't see this country ever allowing a minimum wage Kroger worker a spot in line ahead of corporate lawyers, bankers or health insurance execs.

This is actually already defined.

https://www.cisa.gov/sites/default/...cal_Infrastructure_Workers_FINAL AUG 18v3.pdf

If you don't want to click on the link its:

- Healthcare workers (all of them, from Dr's and Nurses to people making vaccines to mortuary workers)

- Cops (and other first responders and their infrastructure, so I mean some city and state workers will be included here)
Here's your favorite line item in this group as a reminder that cops buy their own guns and stuff
  • Workers supporting the operation of firearm, or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting ranges.
Teachers (and education support staff, bus drivers, etc)

Then Food distribution folks (including pet food retail and distribution!) including (obviously) farmers, farm workers, resturant workers and all the infrastructure there...

then the other categories at a high level:
-Energy
-Water and wastewater
-Transportation and Logistics (presumably that aren't related directly to the stuff above... maybe)
- Public works and Engineering
- Information Technology and Comms
- Other Government functions.
- Crirical Manufacturing
- Hazadous Chemicals

after all that you get to financial services

then there's more.
