With HIPPA laws we are fighting this virus with one hand tied behind our back. I thought in a Pandemic situation Congress would’ve suspended HIPPA. They’ve never been shy before about limiting individual rights for public good.
How so?

The Project BioShield Act of 2004 gives HHS the authority to waive some HIPAA provisions during a nationwide public health emergency so that transmission of patient information and patient care can be more freely facilitated.

Even without a waiver, the HIPAA Privacy Rule allows healthcare providers to share patient information for the purposes of treatment; public health activities; and disclosures to those involved in an individual’s care, to prevent an imminent threat, or to the media.

“Under the Privacy Rule, covered entities may disclose, without a patient’s authorization, protected health information about the patient as necessary to treat the patient or to treat a different patient,” the waiver said. “Treatment includes the coordination or management of health care and related services by one or more health care providers and others, consultation between providers, and the referral of patients for treatment.”

So have we defined an end game yet or are we just going to keep cancelling/postponing indefinitely?

A vaccine? Those can take years to develop. A fast-tracked one will have had limited testing, and plenty of people will be reluctant to get it.

Zero infections? Good luck.

So what is it? The only one I ever hear mentioned is a vaccine. See above. That can't be the only long-term strategy.

A) vaccine
B) hope it “goes away” like SARS
C) hope that immunity is permanent after you’ve had it

So far, that seems to be it

I went to the CDC's stat page for the state of Hawaii and looked up how many people have died from the flu each year. Now, for some reason the page hasn't been updated since April 13, 2018 so the latest stats they have are from calendar year 2017 down through 2014. Still you can get a pretty good idea of how many people die each year here from the flu. Here are the number for 2014-2017:

2017: 637
2016: 507
2015: 557
2014: 438
Average: 535 per year

We could lose a person a day every day through the end of the year (lost only 47 total since the outbreak so far) and still not lose a third of the amount of people we lose every year to the flu. Yet, our yard gnome governor treats the entire fucking state like a leper colony.

With half the population saying they won't get a vaccine when available it will make for a "messy" transition back to a "new" reality of life after the pandemic. It would seem logical that you vaccine your sports teams completely and god only knows how you handle a crowd event.

Europe Entering New Phase of Covid

"There isn’t the widespread chaos and general sense of crisis seen in March and April. And newly detected infections per 100,000 people across Europe are still only about one-fifth the number in the United States over the last week, according to a New York Times database."

"The increase in cases in Europe, as in many other parts of the world, is being driven by young people. The proportion of people age 15 to 24 who are infected in Europe has risen from around 4.5 percent to 15 percent in the last five months, according to the World Health Organization."

I'm interested to see how the narrative changes after the election.
I’ll tell you CoVid No Big Deal. Asymptomatic cases all of a sudden decrease because there were more false positives than were reported. Deaths overstated because of Co morbidities. “I’ve got this” opined Joe Biden.
If Sleepy Joes wins, COVID will suddenly and magically become a non-factor...but only after about two weeks of non-stop blaming the Trump administration.

Ah yes. The world wide conspiracy to bring down Trump.

This is the non-poli thread, by the way.
