People, we all need to just look at this virus in reality and throw the politics and other bullshit out the window. This shit SUCKS!!! I know that because I have it. My son has it. And in a day or two my wife and daughter will likely get test results that confirm that they have it as well. It's starting to make me sick watching folks post their opinions about statistics and any other garbage that takes away from the fact this this virus makes people sick. REALLY sick, and kills way too many. That being said, I'm gonna go on a little break and let you folks bicker about horseshit. I"m gonna "waste" my time making sure that my closest loved ones in life are simply "okay."

Peace, and please stay healthy.

You cite odd examples. Africa, with a population of about four times that of the U.S., has fewer than 1/10 the reported deaths (probably underreporting). Australia has fewer than 10,000 total cases and just over 100 deaths (reporting is probably pretty good). Russia has about 1/2 of the U.S. population and has fewer than 1/10 of the reported deaths (probably underreporting). India has been steadily increasing and may yet explode into a full-on disaster but for now is at 1/6 of U.S. deaths with about 4 1/2 times our population (probably underreporting). Brazil and Mexico are probably our closest comparables.

Why do we think Russia and India are underreporting but not Brazil? Anecdotally, Brazil is a full blown disaster, but, I suppose I might be getting that impression from anti-Bolosnaro types...

But, that aside, (and also putting aside the apples to oranges way countries count deaths) but if you look at the across the board data, I don't know how you compare US with Brazil, or Mexico at all.

Despite the "lack of testing" narratives, we're now running about 800K per day, Mexico has only run 700K TOTAL.

In per capita, the US has run 125K tests per million people. Brazi is about 1/6th of that at 21K and Mexico 5K.

Point is I guess, I don't see where we have any good insight into these countries comparatively. I mean, we can always compare to EU countries on a per capita basis, but, hey, narratives.

Hope you and the family are ok and fully recover.

Here is one of the best articles on the current situation I have seen.

Patients at hospitals are dying less.

Indeed, other countries have seen the same. One study from a hospital in Milan found that from March to May, the mortality rate of its COVID-19 patients declined from 24 percent to 2 percent—"without significant changes in patients’ age.” British hospitals found that their hospital mortality rate has declined every month since April.

So what’s going on? Maybe doctors are just getting smarter about the disease.

My point was only that the countries he chose (Australia?) do not appear to be anything like us. Neither does the EU at this point unless they're just covering things up. Mexico and Brazil may be far worse than us. I didn't specify as to their reporting, which I assume isn't very good because they're not full-on first world countries. I don't really have a narrative and haven't claimed to know much, but for some dumb reason I wandered into an ongoing two-person debate between the U.S. is botching this horribly and the U.S. is handling it great.

EDIT to delete unintentional double quoting and leave only my intended more moderate response.

Look. This "water is muddy" enough without my help so I'll try not to churn it up even more. I'll supply articles and as always, it's up to the reader to determine if they are "helpful" because that's basically what I want here. I don't have a need to fight with anybody. I am an information source here. YMMV

That's all good my dude. My confusion was now we seem to be saying "but how about this country" whoever it might be. Go Eritrea!

I think the euro countries are still perfectly good per capita comparisons.

Eh, whatever... Taos just linked an article in part attributing the drop in death rates to a rise was because more younger people were getting it maybe because they totally went to bars more or something.
