I don't get this potshot I"ve seen a few times in this thread. No one is happy about death tolls anywhere. Who the hell is 'celebrating' anything?
not celebrating it as much as pointing out deaths as way of say “i was right and you were wrong”
and, yes, some are using that in a way that passes themselves off as being happy to prove a sense of superiority.

I guess people celebrate in different ways. Here’s how I would characterize things:

People who post good and bad news; offering intelligent discussion along the way. They tend to celebrate good news and are sad for the bad news.

Club Sunshine: People who post only good news; offering a one-sided, yet optimistic perspective. When good news hits, it is often surfaced as an ‘I told you so’ to the body counters.

Body Kount Klub: People who post only doom and gloom; often with a thinly veiled political bent to their posts. When bad news hits, it is often surfaced as an ‘I told you so’ to Club Sunshine.

Both of the last two groups pick and chose information that fits their narrative and celebrate how Goddamn right they are with every link posted.

The difference between the two, and this is the big deal to me, is that a celebration by Club Sunshine is a celebration of positive news in a time that is difficult for all. A celebration by the Body Kount Klub is a celebration of misery for much of the country / world.

I’ll be the first to admit that I have little ability to suffer fools, and this is clearly directed at the board fool. However, the statements above regarding the Body Kount Klub would be freely applied to others in the event that they existed. Thankfully, most of this community falls in the first two groups.

20 to 30 year old cases of CoVid hospitalizations rising in Fla and Tex. So ER nurse takes patients History ...Have you been to beach? “No” but peeling like onion. Have you been to bar? No’ stamps on both arms from bars. Have you been to protests? “No” BLM tattoo and literature from Anti FA hanging out of purse” It’s Walmart”. Birx new data shows bars , beaches and protests not responsible for increase in CoVid in those under 30. We have data showing Walmart Target eating and drinking are responsible. What a gullible people we are.

Any of you guys ever enter a conversation with, ”I could be wrong?”
People are more than willing to do that with anything until it gets politicized...then, forget it. That’s the real shame of this entire thing, what should be issues of health, safety, and economic survival become the same loaded political bullshit that makes everyone have to be “right” no matter what.

Good comments there, and I think that some of the "I told you so" vibe in some posts may relate more to the "I'm not going to let your post indicate that the political philosophy you support is the correct way to deal with this thing."

So while somebody accurately posts that the death rate in the US has been reduced from about 2000 per day to 600-800 per day, that's obviously good news. There are a variety of reasons for that: the number of new cases had decreased from the peak (yeah, I know it's going up now), we're doing a much better job of protecting the folks in nursing homes and assisted living communities, there are some treatments and medicines that have improved survival rates in ICU's, and currently a higher % of cases are among the younger population.

But some folks seeing the mention of reduced death rates won't allow that fact to be mentioned by itself, because they feel to do so could allow the implication that the country has been doing OK in dealing with this thing, and they believe that's far from the truth. They feel obligated to point out that other countries have had many less cases and/or deaths per capital than the good ol' USA. And there's a lot of data out there. Recent graphs can be found that show that the EU, which was hit a week or two before the USA, now has much lower new cases and death rates. But the EU overall does still have more deaths than the USA, so people can pick a stat they like to support their view.

The recent increase in cases is disappointing but not shocking to me. As a country, we have received confusing messages from the CDC, have had differing approaches among different states, generally have an overall rather individualistic outlook on things, and a fair amount of us reached "COVID fatigue" after several weeks of being told to stay at home while we watched the economy undergo its largest hit in at least 80 years.

I certainly don't believe we can go back to issuing stay at home orders. Hopefully people will practice social distancing and enough will wear masks to get the old R-naught number below 1, so cases can start winding down significantly.

The sad thing to me is that the country is now basically playing Whack-a-Mole as different areas take turns seeing increased numbers of cases. And that could continue for some time.

Abbott closing bars & tubing business.... but still just asking nicely that people wear a face mask, stay physically distant and just do basic hygiene...

and yes cases are going up .. hospital are getting full, and thankfully we are not experiencing a spike in deaths.

However no one really knows the long term effect of having COVID and recovering.

Anecdotally from physicians, the last part is not good, particularly for future immunity.
