So much for the Swedish model.

As of today, Sweden has almost twice as many confirmed cases as Denmark, Norway and Finland combined and almost four times as many deaths as the latter three countries combined. Denmark, Norway and Finland have all drastically flattened the curve on new infections while Sweden is still racking up near record new case days over the last several days.

Culture, not shutdowns, seems to be the overall winner.

The reporting for those countries looks spotty at best. For instance, Sweden's case graph looks like a fucking Cedar Point roller coaster ride...on Apr 21 they reported 185 deaths, and five days later on Apr 26 they had 2. On May 29 they reported 84 deaths, and on May 31/Jun they has 2 deaths for the two days (apparently 0 deaths on May 31). As for them "racking up near record new case days over the last several days", not even close...over the last two days, 139 people have died, which is fewer than single-day totals reported on Apr 15, Apr 21, Apr 22, and May 13, and just a few deaths more than single-day totals reported on Apr 16, Apr 24, and May 8.

At least Taiwan is giving mainland China a run for its money in reporting transparency. Despite having a population of nearly 24 million, Taiwan says they've had a grand total of 443 cases and 7 deaths.

I can't find the article, but it is being reported this morning that The Lancet has released results of hydroxycloroquine studies involving 96,000 people.

The findings are that those (that already had COVID) taking hydroxycloroquine (or a 'cocktail' containing it and an antibiotic), had a 33%-to-45% increased rate of death and an increase in heart arrhythmia of 140%-to-411%.

I'm posting this not because of political concerns, but to let anybody considering taking it (edit - taking it for COVID) that they should probably rethink it.

EDIT - Here's the Lancet article

I won't selectively bring in quoted pieces, I'll wait for the medical folks to review this.

Later EDIT - updated the percentages to ranges

Since I posted the original article on May 22nd in this thread, it's incumbent upon me to post the retraction by the authors of the Lancet article:

...
Our independent peer reviewers informed us that Surgisphere would not transfer the full dataset, client contracts, and the full ISO audit report to their servers for analysis as such transfer would violate client agreements and confidentiality requirements. As such, our reviewers were not able to conduct an independent and private peer review and therefore notified us of their withdrawal from the peer-review process.

We always aspire to perform our research in accordance with the highest ethical and professional guidelines. We can never forget the responsibility we have as researchers to scrupulously ensure that we rely on data sources that adhere to our high standards. Based on this development, we can no longer vouch for the veracity of the primary data sources. Due to this unfortunate development, the authors request that the paper be retracted. Cont'd ...

Swedish women. One of the most naturally beautiful women I have had the pleasure of knowing was typically Swedish looking and totally unaffected by her life long beauty. Still a beauty in her 60s. Still unaffected by her beauty. Amazing!
