Why don't you do ebooks? The Libby app is awesome.
I'm a cheap bastard, I don't buy books, I live a mile from the second largest public library in Illlinois, and they have almost everything.

Also, I like to read before falling asleep, and I don't want to be looking at a screen then.

And lastly, my daughter removes my bookmark every time she sees me, just to mess with me. And I like that.

Well, it certainly isn’t polio brother! The cold is a Coronavirus, the flu is not. We are better off as a society building immunity instead of hiding from it. It’s not going away.

This is a "staging area" outside a hospital in Italy. Some of these people don't even have the coronavirus, but they will be left to die because there are no more doctors, beds, rooms, or equipment to see them.

P.S., Seattle chief of hospital network says they are near this point now, and only have a four-days supply of gloves left.

Norovirus is a motherfucker.

Got that once. Didn't eat for 55 hours and was puking so hard I thought I was going to break a rib.

Maybe one thing that can come of this whole mess is for us to see, as a nation, how dependent we have become on Government and at the same time just how dangerous that can become when we see just how close to the Chinese we really are in terms of freedom from that Government.

You have to pay a price either way. I, personally, would rather be free.

Or, if nothing else, maybe people will get a bit of perspective on what real problems are vs. what we think problems are.

I think I'm the last person in America to get on Netflix. Started my 30 day free trial last night.

Watching V Wars & added Last Chance U to my list (thx @NFBuck). Recommendations? I have a lot of should-be-watching-basketball-dammit hours to fill.

I, for one, will be re-binging Breaking Bad until I can recite every line of dialogue and re-enact entire scenes like I can the original Star Wars trilogy.

I recently binged the last season to get caught up so I could watch El Camino. It's amazing how great just that season is.

So, what is your ETA on martial law in the US? Btw, this is very standard in countries with socialized medicine. If you have a serious illness, game over.

from that article:
The Commonwealth Fund, a U.S. think tank, released a report two years ago ranking Canada 10th out of 11 wealthy nations in terms of health care. Only the United States fared worse. The report, based largely on satisfaction surveys by patients and health-care providers, placed Canada last in timeliness of care. The United Kingdom was ranked No. 1

care to guess what kind of medicine is practiced by the countries ranked higher than the usa, which ranked last?

more from the article heisman posted:

The most notable way the U.S. differs from other industrialized countries is the absence of universal health insurance coverage.5 Other nations ensure the accessibility of care through universal health systems and through better ties between patients and the physician practices that serve as their medical homes. The Affordable Care Act is increasing the number of Americans with coverage and improving access to care, though the data in this report are from years prior to the full implementation of the law. Thus, it is not surprising that the U.S. underperforms on measures of access and equity between populations with above- average and below-average incomes.

The U.S. also ranks behind most countries on many measures of health outcomes, quality, and efficiency. U.S. physicians face particular difficulties receiving timely information, coordinating care, and dealing with administrative hassles...
