On a serious note, another approach to fighting this damn virus may hold real promise:

Monoclonal.antibodies

This approach identifies the most promising antibodies in patients who have successfully fought off the disease, and then isolates them and mass reproduces them (through bio-engineering or cloning). There are over 50 organizations that are working on this research, and human trials should be starting in the next few weeks. This includes Regeneron, a company that used this approach against Ebola with some success.

This would be a treatment, rather than a vaccine, but could prove to be an extremely valuable technique in reducing the impact of COVID. I'm surprised it hasn't received more attention to this point.

Additionally, the research done now will give these companies the ability to go through the same process more efficiently for the next coronavirus epidemic.

Ohio State's share of DeWine's just announced budget cuts is said to amount to 15M of the 110M he cut from higher ed. So far, that's nothing to us. It shouldn't make much of a dent in our annual operating surplus. I think the bigger hit will be if the dorms aren't full in September and if out of state students take the semester off. That could start to sting more than the state's budget cuts.
