Major hospitals are also struggling mightily sitting empty. UH and Mayo have either instituted pay cuts or furloughs. It does seem that hospitals are starting to open up, but the fear is that people will still avoid them, even when they shouldn’t.

Interestingly, you know who’s making bank during all this? Anyone who’s writing health insurance policies... The irony is not lost on me.

Well, and not to bring politics into this forum, but the long-game play for insurance companies is obvious...even if coverage for pre-existing conditions are not allowed to be completely denied, they can still charge a fuckload more for them, and there is evidence that COVID survivors have damage to their lungs...so, watch for them to use money and resources to lobby like absolute crazy for the antibody tests, because then they can take anyone exposed to the virus (sick at the time or not) and put them in the preexisting category. This could absolutely dwarf what the banks got as a result of their bailout.

Until this country eliminates the profit motive for healing, we are all fucked.

Probably a dumb question 15% of Illinois tests positive. For now you can only get a test in my area with symptoms. What disease do the 85 per cent with symptoms and negative tests have? Flu? Common cold? Pneumonia? COPD? Exotic disease? Or is it inaccurate test, compromised sample, improper handling?

I'm deeply saddened bye what is going on in this country. So many wonderful people dying. So many out of work. Are we even half way through this shit show? Maybe after the next 70 thousand deaths we'll have some sense of where this is going.
i hope Mili is feeling better maybe he could give us an update of what day he's in?

Largely flu, yes. When this all started up back in March my friend was sharing some stats with me regarding the results from their clinics. Very little COVID and a LOT of flu. Still pretty similar results.
