Coronavirus (COVID-19) is too exciting for adults to discuss (CLOSED)

The latest data from the New Mexico Department of Health shows Native Americans make up 41.47% of the state’s COVID-19 cases. Native Americans represent 10.9% of New Mexico’s population, according to 2019 U.S. Census Bureau data.

And what percentage of total tests administered in New Mexico were for Native Americans? These “news” articles report about half the facts needed to actually draw any valid conclusions. But they make spicy headlines to draw clicks.

Apparently several hundred thousand of them already are.

To put it in perspective, 700,000 rifle-toting Michiganders is about equal to the total personnel of the militaries of the UK, France, Germany, and Spain COMBINED.

So. Yeah. No step on snek.

So, my Dad's a deer hunter. He's also a retired doctor married to a retired nurse. Lots of the guys he has hunted with over the years are also white collar professionals or businessmen with a fair amount to lose from and little desire to propagate civil unrest. But sure, 700,000 deer hunters are all going to band together, appoint some of themselves as "sheriffs" and assemble posse comitatus to bring down our corrupt society and institute natural law as they, constitutional scholars that they are, see it. I'm sure a handful of these guys will manage to shoot up a mosque, synagogue, or campus or two, or maybe even a police station if they really decide to go full retard, but they'll start killing each other over internal disputes before they organize into anything resembling a coherent military.

Why were there terrorists spreading kung flu to each other at the mosque, synagogue or campus to begin with? Hmmmmmmm?????

Hey, that’s great Jake. My response was a reflection of my experience with the Cook County Sheriffs Dept. Been told most of the county jails are just housing for the mentally ill these days.

Yep, that's the case in many parts of the country. It's a result of:

"Closing the psychiatric hospitals was a mistake in that no reasonable alternative was offered."

These are the scenes we need to worry about... this is the stuff that's going to be the canary in the coal mine for the rest of the shit.

We're all about 4 meals from precivilization.

If this curve isn't flat enough... it will all fall apart.

That's been my concern once I learned how many Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck: roughly 75%. You can only go a couple weeks before that shit hits the fan and unemployment comp isn't coming fast enough.

People get desperate when they, and their family, are hungry. That won't be good for society if things don't start improving soon.

I think we have about 2 more weeks before you start to see some real stress on that front, at least psychologically... one thing fearing sending your kid to bed hungry, another doing it.

Listened to a podcast yesterday saying the same thing.
Americans will follow orders and make sacrifices when they see real, tangible changes/impact. You just don't get to see that in a Pandemic.

The speaker estimated we have till May 8 till we see people of all economic classes say "fuck this, i'm going out"

Trump just started to re-open national parks...I think some folks way up in government see this coming.

If the goal of shelter in place was to flatten the curve, as I believe it was the case, and it’s been sufficiently flattened then this makes sense.

If the goal of shelter in place was to save lives, which I think some people think it is, there’s going to be a lot of people who are going to be unhappy with the body counts that we’ll see.

As a number of folks here have commented, everyone (my edit: or a very large number) is going to catch this before a vaccine is released. If we can keep the volume of cases low enough in finitely small points in time by locale, then the original mission will be accomplished.

More and more tests are showing that a shit-ton of people have already had it and have gotten over it.
