This decision by Whitmer won’t just hurt the Home Depot’s and Lowe’s of the world, but will significantly harm the home farm type stores.
Absolutely, and that's extremely concerning, but that's the case for most businesses.
My wife is an accountant for one that has stores here, in Ohio and a few other States and they’re tremendously concerned about their business. I don’t see this as being any different then buying groceries or other supplies. I know numerous people who count on their gardens for year long subsistence.
I may have misread from my michigan friends (the joys of learning through banter instead of news), but my understanding was people can still pick it up after ordering online.

edit: trying to find clarification there. Seeing both things being claimed on facebook, and the only official word is the MRA hoping they can do this.

Helicopter moms swoop in to keep life from happening.

Meanwhile, actual medical transports are working on spreading the Detroit patients around the state to hospitals where the surge hasn't happened yet.

There's a fine line between voluntary compliance and micromanaging exposure. I have already painted and gardened and based on the shit at the curb on trash day most people are doing long put off cleaning and home improvement chores. I can buy some shit at one store and not other shit is stupid on its face.

"Sitting home sucks but at least I got ____ done" is a real thing.

It comes down to whether or not you think access should be limited for safety. That goes for restaurants, craft shops, mulch/seeds, photographers, picnic table customizers, etc. If your goal is to suppress the spread, then people should only be going out every 2-5 weeks, and not to twelve different places.
You just proved my point. By not shutting down the store it's clear that limiting access to certain parts of the store isn't done for safety's sake, else they would've just shut down the store. And by not allowing people to get all their shit in one place (like they would've been able to, before having sections blocked off) now they have to go elsewhere to try to find what they need, just what officials wanted to avoid.

On the flip side, if the personal liberties and freedom should trump public safety, and these steps are smashing those to pieces.
How is blocking off small sections of a large store while allowing free access to the rest of the store helping "public safety"?

Either way, there is a legitimate argument to be made for the fallout from not having easy access to that kind of nature-based therapy.Because there are lots of essential things to survive elsewhere in Home Depot. It's the same reason some stores are closing off the art supplies in walmart.
Growing food is more than "nature-based therapy". And art supplies aren't food...well, except for paint chips.

What percentage of people are self-making their own food, Mili? Were garden boxes selling like hotcakes like toilet paper?
Everyone that bought fruit and vegetable seeds were "self-making their own food", Josh. You think they just threw tomatoes, carrots, etc., away as soon as they were ready for picking? And the popularity of fruit and vegetable seeds compared to toilet paper is completely irrelevant.

The bold feels like the main thing. The see-sawing on the golf ruling comes to mind.

Which is going to lead to a severe refusal to adhere to any 2nd wave precautions.

I unfortunately feel like Whitmer is taking a shotgun approach to her decisions. I’m sure this would not sit well in other smaller more agricultural areas of the country.

Online is not a huge part of their sales style. Possible, yes, but not as customer driven as a big box in a more urban area.

it’s as much if not more of an impact on the general population as it is on the business. Some of the gardens around here are amazing and done by older folks. My 91 year old Mother-in-law doesn’t order on line...

You failed to notice that those areas of the store are cordoned off while others aren't. If people "just can't wander through stores in a hot zone state" then why is the store even fucking open at all?

Nutcrackers and Lazy Susans don't produce food...self-produced food which would help people avoid having to go grocery shopping as often, which you would think that the government would want in order to cut down exposure and have more food available on grocery shelves for others.

Not sure if I'm reading your post correctly, but most gardening is done outside.
Ugh, most people I know garden "inside" if you know what I mean.:pimp:

Saw one yesterday where a child car seat was in the "sorry you cant buy this stuff" section at (probably) wal mart. Of course that's one of those extreme screamy things where if im a Walmart associate and you need that seat... Y'all can write me up. Good luck with that shit.

But to me, if the store is open its open. I get Billy's 3rd st st craft and hobby shop... But we need the Menards and lowes of the world.

Sherwin Williams does curbside btw for anyone needing some paint.

Well damn. Friends’ from college dad is in the ICU on a ventilator.

Very successful family here in Indy. Grew up playing basketball against these twins. Oddly enough, ran into them 3 weeks ago at the [one and only] Big Ten Tournament night. Talked about how crazy this whole thing was but agreed on the precautions at the time (banning fans). They had a family trip planned and canceled. Now hoping they get a chance to re-schedule some day.
Son of a bitch, friends’ dad ended up passing today. 2 weeks after being hospitalized.

Unreal. See the guys at the Big Ten tourney a month ago shooting the sh*t and who knew how much things would change since then.

RIP
