That's where i have to disagree.
No social distancing means the economy collapses for the decade. Not just a hickup.
A lot of this goes back to the hollowing out of America starting with Reagan and continuing, unbroken, right up to that latest Emergency Donor handout.
The fuse being lit was that bill.
They could have done the 1200 without means testing nonsense (who cares if Bill Gates gets a 1.2k check) or requiring direct deposit through IRS.
They just had to bureaucratize it to death. And so nobody who needs it will see it in time.
They could have simply paused all Capitalism for a month. No interest, no penalties, no accruing or capitalizing of interest ... just hit the pause button and add 1mo to the terms.
This would have been amazing for small business too. No debt/bills to pay, no reason to shutdown - just on hiatus for a month.
There's a lot they could have chosen to do.
They chose poorly.
