You are at much higher risk getting into an automobile. Life is full of risks and this is a total waste of time.
When you get into an automobile accident, you're aware of it, and so is everyone who was hit with the shrapnel nearby.
You can also not get into automobiles. That's a choice.

The fact that there are other risks does not negate the risks.

Perspective is needed, and life is always full of unappreciated risks. The flu is a different one for the most part (despite being far more mature / widespread in cases/deaths). It's both more and less serious at the same time.

It was also a very underappreciated risk, until it was useful for memes.

I’m at a higher risk of death by automobile by driving in some shithole third world country, driving 90 mph on 315 with my cellphone in my hand, or standing on a curb as a pedestrian in Dubai or some overcrowded city in India or Asia.

I don’t take any of those risks either.

Correct, you are in charge of your risk management, and not creating mass hysteria when 99.999999999999% of the population will never be affected in any way.

I'm at a higher risk to not sanitize my surfaces very much. I grew up a bit before that was widespread in young ones, and frankly looked down upon it a bit as overdone. That was a choice that was selfish.

The real irony is if we sanitize and protect ourselves so strongly that we cultivate the scenario for the antibiotic immune pandemic to hit full force.
