Corey Dennis (QB Coach & Pass Game Coordinator Tulsa)

Wish him well obviously. Never really understood why some people were so hard on him. Lesmerises and THE podcast guys were especially hard on him. I mean, I understand being Urban's SIL makes you an easy target. But he played 4 years of pretty high D-1 college football. Plenty of guys get hired to be lower level staffers with that resume. And his position group always performed well in recruiting and on the field.

The United States is what the anthropologist Edward T. Hall would call a low context culture. That is, nonverbal cues in conversation are far less important than what actually is said. The US ranks as #1 among low context cultures. People choose words more carefully, say what they mean, and mean what they say. Contrast this to high context cultures where nonverbal cues are much more important. It is not only what is said, but how it is said and what is not said. People in high context cultures listen to conversations differently than Americans, listening also to what is not said. I live in a higher context culture.

This said, when I listen to Ohio State's great quarterbacks in recent years, there is always a nod to Corey Dennis, but they speak much more directly about what Ryan Day has taught them. I don't say this to diminish Dennis, but "developed/recruited" would seem to have been more accurately written as "recruited/developed", when I listen to those quarterbacks.

I am very happy that Corey Dennis was in Columbus working with the quarterbacks these years and think he is a great class act. I wish him well and he played his role in development as well, but against that background.

“I want to thank Ohio State and coach (Ryan) Day, Todd Fitch,” said Stroud as he accepted the award at the Resorts World Theater.

The omission is pretty telling. I’m sure he skipped over his position coach to thank an offensive analyst on the staff because the position coach was so instrumental in his development.

He later thanked Dennis in an interview so it could be he just spaced. Or It could be someone told him how it looked who knows.

None of our QBs looked prepared this year.
Stroud and Fields are "generational" for all but a handful of CFB teams... and even in that group, Stroud could be considered generational.
So who do i give credit for Stroud ? Mostly himself tbh.
The real work is when we have run-of-the-mill QBs, who are still very talented and a lot of schools would have taken over other recruits.
And none of them look like they know what they're doing out there.

I don't want to bash him. I think this job at Ohio State was beyond him as a first gig.
And i say that realizing Hartline and Laurinitis are in a similar boat right now, but neither of them have the nepo angle. Both have NFL experience, more playtime more exposure to coaching techniques, and both were made to wait their time as GAs. If Laurinitis fails to deliver, i don't think Day will have a hard time letting him go. We won't wait years for it to happen.
Hartline kind of fell into the job and we got lucky after another Urban nepo hire flamed out.

I hope Corey develops his career with Kiffin.
He seems like a great person and Im sure he's sincere, unlike ZS. This just wasn't the best place to learn the job.
