Contest VIII - Where Am I?‏

ScriptOhio;1021497; said:
I am sure nobody noticed (or cared) that I haven't posted in the last several days. I'm on a vacation. Since a lot of you like trivia, contests, and/or guessing games; I am having another contest to guess where I am today and tomorrow. The first person to guess the correct city wins greenies, 1000 vDollars, and a gift. Note: The vDollars and gift are contingent on Deety (again) being willing to help on the transfer of the vDollars and buying the gift.
Thank you Deety.

Other unique, novel, funny, and/or close guesses may also get greenies. The clues are:

1. I'm on a cruise so obviously the city is on the waterfront.

2. It is located on a very well known body of water. It is an ocean, sea, gulf, straight, river, or lake. Yes, I can think of at least one lake that can be visited by cruise ships. Additional greenies to the first one that can name a lake that cruise ships frequently visit.

3. The city is not as nearly well known as the body of water. It does have well over 1 million people and was much more well known in years past.

4.a. The cruise ship looks very similiar to this ship (could be one of the octuplets):

b. A boat race or a series of boat races.

5. I believe that some background scenes for one James Bond movie was filmed in the general area.

First person to guess the city wins. If nobody guesses the actual city then the guess closest to the actual city wins. There may not be any posts (with hints or acknowledgement of the winner) from me until I return. The winner to be announced and prizes awarded after I return (on 21 Dec 07).

The usual rules still apply:

You can guess as often as you like; however, one guess per post. Without this rule I'm sure someone would get the idea to cut and paste an entire atlas listing every city/state/country known to man and say one of these places.

No fair checking the internet address where the post was from.

Nassau on New Providence Island.

So is the ocean. :)

Actually I was thinking (as you might guess) along these lines ...

When ScriptOhio asks for a lake that can be visited by a cruise ship that comes in from the ocean - or sea - and then can return to the same.

There are a couple of examples that come to mind.

Gatun Lake - which is part of the Panama Canal system - deep enough for cruise ships, and they do in fact visit the same.

Guaiba (sp) Lake - which is part of Porto Alegre. I'm not entirely sure that cruise ships could navigate to the open sea from there, but it looks like that would be possible as the Port is located at the very top of the lake.
