Comparisons between LSU v OSU defensive personnel

IMO it wont' hurt our secondary if only our backup gets suspended because he rarely played. However, if our starter does get punished (and it looks like he wont') it could effect us a lot in what we do. Our Back up Chimdi Chikwa who would be filling in is a very very good cover corner but only draw back to him is he's a bit undersized so #1 for LSU might be able to out muscle him (I hear Lafell is a delicate kid though so maybe not). Our Starter Donald Washington is very talented, very physical, and a big DB. At 6'1" 190ish Donald is probably a future 1st rounder (IMO, because of his size and speed) and losing him would hurt but wouldn't necessarily devistate us.

Also you'll have to come at Ohio State better than you did against Va Tech IMO. There's a couple things that seperate Va Tech from Ohio State. 1st Va Tech's offensive line is abysmal and should not be compared to Ohio States, 2nd Ohio State has a good QB unlike Tech, and most especially Ohio State has offensive weapons all over the field.

Being that I use to live 10 minutes from Va Tech I know they have some nice weapons in Eddie Royal, Brandon Orre use to be good, and also #2 Morgan is fast but OSU has more weapons. Especially at the tailback position.

Good to hear from you on our board and welcome!! ................dude

Lafell is more physical that you might think, however he is not LSU's big threat receiver in my opinion. Early Doucet and Demetrius Byrd are more dangerous although Lafell has had his moments. He (Lafell) had a case of the "yips" during the middle of the season but came back strong the last couple of games.

Also, Terrance Tolliver, a true freshman, has shown himself to be a weapon as well as TE Richard Dickson. I think your secondary will have their hands full. Thanks for the welcome and look forward to more yakking leading up to the game. Thanks dude and Geaux Tigers!!!

you will be facing the best secondary/defense you will have seen this year....

You imparticullary haven't faced a DB as talented as Malcom Jenkins. He is top 10 in the NFL and he stays put for a year maybe top 5 because he's that good. Our defense can get pressure without blitzing, we're fast, and we're physical in the front 7, and in the back 4 I promise you we'll be just as good and most likely better than anything you'll have faced.

Who do you honestly think is better in the SEC? I mean really... seriously

Virginia Tech is the best defense we have faced. Followed by Auburn. Pass defense probably Ark...

Thanks for the comments everyone...While writing these, I understood that LSU and OSU would be rotating people in and out. In order to make things easier I took their base defenses, took what the media guides said were their starters and compared their stats.

This being said, I know some of the comparisons may be a little closer than normal. The Gholston/Pittman matchup, I have only truely seen Gholston play. I know he is an animal. Gholston has 13 (or something) sacks but only 34 tackles. Pittman has 60 tackles.

I will edit the post and put in Washington. When I posted it, the news just broke out about how he may be suspended. I will put him back in and make a decision again. All of my notes and information is on my work computer. I will need to be there to edit it.

VT, Auburn, and Ark.. Probably not better that OSU, but the same...

Ohio State gives up 148.2 passing per game
Auburn gives up 179
Va Tech 207.3
Arkansas 211.2

AS before, I know stats don't tell the whole story. But, Ohio State is out to a considerable lead here. 30 yards per game, after a 12 game season, is a significant difference. Va Tech and Ark in the conversation are just laughable.

I have decided to let everyone make their own decision about this match-up. I thought about editing the post, but I heard on the radio that Washington may still be out. I heard that he is appealing his suspension. Here are the stats for the two corners:

Jonathan Zenon, senior ? Zenon is a great cover corner and starting 25 straight games. He has made 35 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Zenon has 2 interceptions with 6 broken up pass playes. He is credited with a forced fumble and a recovery this season.

Donald Washington, sophomore ? Washington has started all 12 games this season. With 34 tackles, 2 for a loss and 1 sack, Washington has been a great player this season. Washington has one interception and one fumble recovery.

My decision would probably go something like this:

Washington is a very young, but capable cornerback. His potential is still growing. Both players are great defensive backs. These two are very close in their production. I would almost give this match-up a wash, but there is a slight advantage. Zenon would have the advantage here. His experience and more pass deflections would give him the edge over the two.

What does everyone else think of this match-up?

All three of those teams have played better offenses than OSU. I see OSUs #1 ranking but I am just wondering if it is a paper tiger... But do not take that as an insult, LSU's defense has turned out to be a paper tiger.
