Company Christmas Party

While I can certainly understand and appreciate the sentiments from Scooter regarding "Christmas Party" versus "Holiday Party," I really think it is up the place of employment to label it as they see fit. For instance, we had our "holiday" luncheon this past Thursday. It was a day before Hannukah and 2 full weeks before Christmas. So in that case, holiday party seems to be more accurate. The holiday that we all get out of work for is still called Christmas.

To Sushi (and other like-minded people), I would like to simply point out, or remind, that Christmas is an actual federal holiday.

And while I think it's appropriate that businesses call their parties whatever they want to call them (especially depending on what date they actually hold them), I believe it's inappropriate for school calendars and the like to list the day of 12/25 as a "Winter Holiday." Again, the actual federal holiday is called "Christmas" and any schools that receive federal funding should refer to the holiday appropriately. This is where Scooter's argument rightfully becomes more analogous, where if a school system wants to list Christmas as "winter holiday" then they should also refer to MLK day as "Winter Holiday part 2."

Both examples, IMO, are equally absurd.

Ours sucks. The school goes to the same banquet hall, w/ the same boring food that we go to for 3 or 4 other events every school year. No hard liquor, only Bud Light. Worst of all, there are about 3 people at school who will actually drink and have fun, the rest is a bunch of middle age old bags wearing Christmas sweaters and going "oooh, I'm being naughty, I had two beers." I wanted to skip it last year, to hang out at the football staff's party at a bar, but our nun-principal got wind of this, and told me and the head coach that she expected us to be there. This year, they are supposed to play "Family Feud" between various teams, but it's not like we will be able to get smashed and have any fun w/ the categories.

Once we finished the dinner ours was not too bad tonight. Our office shut things down. The bar was semi-open and they only had a certain number of drinks available. One of the really funny guys was drunk and that was our entertainment. Fortunately his wife stayed sober so they could get home. He tried to steal this huge wreath on the wall. He had convinced the staff to help him get away with it.

Overall, much more fun than the Christmas parties at my old job.
