Companies and/or Products You Avoid (MERGED)

I ain't all that fond of Wal-Mart. Ever try their store brand lunch meat? Our cats, who normally prowl around waiting for us to toss them a piece of lunch meat, will not touch the Wal-Mart store brand. Cottage cheese store brand? Runny as milk. That, and the endless walking, is why I much prefer Kroger. Better product mix, whether name brand or store brand, and never a problem with quality, and I can get in and out in a fraction of the time. Wifey, however, insists she saves money at WM so she shops there.

My main policy issue with WM is their aggressive stand against private property owners and the use of emminent domain to obtain what they cannot procure in the open marketplace. Damn them to hell for that alone.

If WM employees are not happy, they can leave. But property owners cannot stand up against a WM/city hall onslaught. And they should not have to.

It's not really a product or a brand, but I refuse to pay to see Jerry Bruckheimer produced movies. I won't buy DVDs, I won't go to his movies (and I go quite often). The man will throw millions and millions at any large box of shit, and it doesn't matter. Plus, he puts 'Bruckheimer moments' into many of his movies. For about a 10 year span, Bruckheimer films contained a 'sassy black person.' In Con-Air, the trolley driver is just one example.

Coyote Ugly, Con Air, Face Off, King Arthur, and so many more complete steaming piles. He's the epitome of what's wrong in Hollywood.

well BB in the same area they have Chipotle, red fish (great resteraunt), and a million other places to try. I recommend a sushi place up the road off of Frank Llyod Wright. Go there for happy hour and enjoy the view.. the waitresses are OMG, just trust me. Plus half off sushi.. so wonderful!

If anyone goes to Arizona and eats friggin' Chipotle, I will beat your ass. There are so many excellent Mexican places out there -- don't eat at a chain one!

(off soapbox)

i live in arizona (and have lived here for 12 years) and i must testify that Macayo's is an excellent chain restaurant

but you are right also in that there are some family owned mexican restaraunts that are excellent as well

I had a seminar/vacation in OC last June, took the wifey and grandkids. We tasted In-N-Out for the first time. Very awesome...fries are cooked in peanut oil for an interesting texture. On Beach Blvd., nearby were McDonalds, Burger King, and Jack-in-the-Box. There were a few cars at Mickey D's, but the BK and JB parking lots were empty. At the In-N-Out, cars were lined up at the drive-thru around the building and about 200 ft. down the street, and the parking lot was packed.

A consultant took me and the wifey to dinner one time. Her co-workers were there, all from Texas. They raved about the superiority of Mexican food in Texas to that of Georgia. (After 3 trips to Texas in the past few years, I've yet to find a Mexican restaurant I liked. So it seems to be a regional taste issue, not a quality issue.)

But what the hell? They were UT fans, and I was not their immediate client, so I had nothing to lose and just couldn't resist!

(you ready for this...)

"Yes, we sometimes eat at Taco Bell ourselves."

Let's just say my response had the desired effect.
