Just sayin': If the season ended today the Jackets would be on the outside looking in for the playoffs. They are a point behind Carolina for the 2nd wild card spot; however, they have played 2 less games. Regardless what Duchene brings to the table, the Jackets will still need Bobrovsky to play "lights out" to have any chance of winning any playoff rounds.

Blue Jackets adding Matt Duchene in trade with Senators

According to multiple reports, Julius Bergman is also heading to the Blue Jackets, while the Senators will receive a first-round draft pick in 2019*, a conditional first-rounder in 2020**, and prospects Vitalii Abramov and Jonathan Davidsson in return.

*Conditions: If the pick is top 3, the Senators will receive Columbus' 2020 1st round selection instead.
**Conditions: If Duchene re-signs with the Blue Jackets, Ottawa will receive Columbus' 2020 1st round pick. (If the 2019 pick moves to 2020 as a result of the lottery and Duchene signs with Columbus, the 2020 conditional pick would then move to 2021). If Duchene does not re-sign with Columbus, no pick is exchanged.

Anyone know anything about Julius Bergman (46th overall, 2014; San Jose Sharks), Vitalii Abramov (65th overall, 2016; Columbus Blue Jackets), and/or Jonathan Davidsson (170th overall, 2017, Columbus Blue Jackets)?

How good of prospects are they?

Duchene gets win with Blue Jackets after trade from Ottawa

Duchene, who was dealt by Ottawa to Columbus hours before the game, was held pointless. Josh Anderson, Cam Atkinson and Oliver Bjorkstrand scored for the Blue Jackets, who moved into third place in the Metropolitan Division.

"I enjoyed myself out there," Duchene said. "It was kind of a good way to end my time as a Sen, and I probably felt more comfortable because I was in this building (rather) than had we gone somewhere else."

"It was a big win for us and (Craig Anderson) played really well over there and kept them in it for a long time."

Duchene received an ovation from the crowd when he was introduced in the starting lineup. He was then mildly booed when he touched the puck during his second shift of the game, and again applauded during a short video tribute.

Duchene said he's happy to be part of a team with a realistic shot at the playoffs instead of a rebuilding franchise.

"That's what I'm looking for and that's what gets me up every morning for sure," Duchene said. "I've been fortunate to be on a lot of good international teams and win some big tournaments, but I've never had a chance to play in the playoffs consistently."
