Bob's not the problem.
The core defense completely and totally melted down. Bob isn't Hasek obviously and he's not going to steal you a series. Roy and Broduer had world-class defenses in front of them. Bob's still clearly one of the best goalies in the league. If you don't want him, trade him to Detroit and take Howard, so you can overpay for a shitty goalie instead
Other than Jones and Cole, everyone else played like total ass on defense and even Jones was getting pushed around towards the end. Add to that the only forwards playing with any type of grit or intensity were foligno and jenner and you have a recipe for disaster.
Vanek stopped making an impact around game 3. Panarin was physically neutralized. Wenneberg was hurt early on and over than Calvert, the rest of them went into a shell for the most part. Sure it would be nice if Bobrovsky would steal a game, but you can't expect that, especially when you're giving up consistent 2 and 3 on 1 breaks. Eventually someone's going to get one through. There's a reason the Caps won the division. They had a LOT more scoring depth than the Jackets have.
Of course it is disappointing the Jackets blew a 2-0 lead. But, this is the second year in a row they made the playoffs, and with a team that has an average age of 25, with no one over 31 or 32, the future looks pretty bright. I'd expect them to continue to improve, and I anticipate that they will.
