Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

I mean, the elephant in the room that is bobs playoff performances can't be ignored much longer.

I know that they turned the puck over too much and the defense hung him out to dry quite a bit, but there were some goals that just shouldn't happen. And it's been a trend that is amplified by his future contract status.

Bob's not the problem.

The core defense completely and totally melted down. Bob isn't Hasek obviously and he's not going to steal you a series. Roy and Broduer had world-class defenses in front of them. Bob's still clearly one of the best goalies in the league. If you don't want him, trade him to Detroit and take Howard, so you can overpay for a shitty goalie instead

Other than Jones and Cole, everyone else played like total ass on defense and even Jones was getting pushed around towards the end. Add to that the only forwards playing with any type of grit or intensity were foligno and jenner and you have a recipe for disaster.

Vanek stopped making an impact around game 3. Panarin was physically neutralized. Wenneberg was hurt early on and over than Calvert, the rest of them went into a shell for the most part. Sure it would be nice if Bobrovsky would steal a game, but you can't expect that, especially when you're giving up consistent 2 and 3 on 1 breaks. Eventually someone's going to get one through. There's a reason the Caps won the division. They had a LOT more scoring depth than the Jackets have.

Agreed. Bob let in a few soft ones, but he made enough unbelievable saves to more than make up for it. When you give up that many quality scoring chances, a team as good as Washington is going to bury some. It's on the team for the piss-poor coverage. So much standing around on scrambles.

The depth is what I come back to. With Bread-PLD-Cam neutralized and the Wennberg-Vanek-Jenner line a mess because of Wennberg's injury and Vanek's no-show, where is the secondary scoring going to come from? Dubinsky? (Lol.) Letestu? Bjorkstrand? There's just no depth there, especially when the blue-liners can't get the puck up to them. Jenner (despite his dumb penalties) and Calvert brought it, but man....so many guys were invisible in the offensive end. And jeez.....the panic with the puck. AH! It's a Cap! Throw it away! THROW IT AWAY! It was like watching a game of retarded hot potato out there....

Despite that, if the PP/PK had been anything OTHER than a complete fucking shitshow, the CBJ win this series.

Of course it is disappointing the Jackets blew a 2-0 lead. But, this is the second year in a row they made the playoffs, and with a team that has an average age of 25, with no one over 31 or 32, the future looks pretty bright. I'd expect them to continue to improve, and I anticipate that they will.

You can't polish a turd, bro.

foudy-liam-1.jpg

London Knights’ center Liam Foudy comes from a sports family. His father Sean played professional football for six seasons in the Canadian Football League. His mother France Gareau is an Olympian who competed at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles in the 100-meter sprint as well as the 4 X 100-meter relay where she captured a silver medal. And younger brother Jean-Luc was the tenth overall pick at the recently completed Ontario Hockey League’s Priority Selection by the hated Windsor Spitfires.

Foudy played his minor midget hockey with the Markham Majors during the 2015-2016 season. He appeared in 32 games scoring 19 goals and 19 assists. The Knights selected Foudy with the 18thoverall pick at the 2016 Priority Selection. The scouting report from OHL Central Scouting read as follows:

Liam is the engine that makes his team go. He does a very good job of anticipating the play and jumping into holes at the right time, which is one of the reasons why he gets so many breakaways. He has deceiving quickness and changes gears well off the rush to beat defenders. He has a very high skill set and is dangerous one-on-one. Liam has good hands around the net and capitalizes on the majority of his chances. He has developed into a top GTHL prospect.
