THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Blue Jackets interim general manager Jim Clark has told the rest of the club's front-office employees to go about their days and perform their jobs as they would under normal circumstances.

Even though, as Clark said, these are far from normal times in Nationwide Arena. On Wednesday, Doug MacLean was fired as president and general manager.
"We're in flux right now," Clark said. "The guy who has given us our direction for the past seven seasons is gone, and people here are getting over the shock and disappointment of not having Doug at the helm anymore.

By Aaron Portzline

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The Blue Jackets' search for a new general manager is likely to drag into May -- maybe longer -- multiple team sources said yesterday.

Blue Jackets president Mike Priest, who is leading the search to replace Doug MacLean, is still in the infant stage of formulating a list of candidates he would like to interview.
The first two interviews are believed to be Blue Jackets assistant general manager Jim Clark and director of player personnel Don Boyd. After that, Priest will begin interviewing outside candidates, but that won't begin until late this week at the earliest.

The Blue Jackets are in no hurry and have no timetable for hiring a general manager, club president Mike Priest said yesterday.

Priest, in his first interview since he was named president last week, said he is still in the "very early stages of the process" to find a replacement for Doug MacLean.
"We're still accumulating names," Priest said. "We've been contacted by several different people, through various means, and we're compiling a list. After we get all the names that we feel are worthy of consideration, we'll narrow them down to a more manageable list of candidates, and then we'll begin the process of interviewing."

i havent seen the "books" and you and i know damn well how some accounting practices can skew that stuff, especially in sports were salaries escalate. the first 4 years the team was very profitable. the last two years they lost "some money" i know mr mac is adamant that the team is not to make money. its a break even venture in his view. (at least till he dies, however soon or later that maybe who knows). the team is about league average in attendance. 28th or so (depending on how you do it) on spending. the corp money is very good. tv contract sucks. basic relatively close to break even point. i dont see the team leaving anytime soon.

like ive said before is the one thing doug did right no questions ask was build a small hockey city were 1 sheet of ice existed. the new unis should shift this even more forcing it to be more of an ohio team vs columbus team. columbus is the only american city you can play hockey at any level. cleveland has the nations largest youth hockey program etc etc. i could go on but,

no the teams not going anywhere in the forseeable future.

BLUE JACKETS
Interviews for GM will begin next week
Team getting permission from other clubs
Saturday, May 12, 2007 3:30 AM
By Aaron Portzline

The Columbus Dispatch

The Blue Jackets' search for a general manager finally is heating up, with interviews likely to begin next week.

President Mike Priest confirmed to The Dispatch yesterday that he has "begun the process of asking other NHL clubs for permission" to speak to their employees, although he wouldn't say which teams, or how many, he has contacted.
"We're making progress," Priest said. "But we're still early in the process."
A slew of outside candidates have been whittled to fewer than 10 or, as Priest called it, "a more manageable number, an A-list of candidates."

NHL
Hitchcock takes a look like a fan
Watching playoffs on TV unusual for Jackets' coach

TIM REVELL | DISPATCH
After two rounds of the playoffs, Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock says he's finally able to watch the game like a fan; well, almost.

Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock is used to coaching playoff hockey, not watching it on TV.

Since 1993, when the Dallas Stars hired him to coach the Kalamazoo Wings of the old International Hockey League, Hitchcock has never missed the postseason when he has spent an entire season behind the bench.
"It's just way too long an offseason when you don't make the playoffs," Hitchcock said. "I hope our guys feel that way, too."
If Hitchcock was tortured by the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs, he has mellowed now that the conference finals are under way.
"I found myself analyzing and studying way too much in the first two rounds," Hitchcock said. "Now, I think I'm better able to watch like a fan."

Team Canada's Rick Nash raises the world championship trophy after a 4-2 win over Finland in the gold-medal game.

MOSCOW -- Canada used a different formula to achieve familiar results at the world hockey championships. Relying on youngsters and journeymen instead of stars, the Canadians defeated Finland 4-2 yesterday to win their third world title in five years and their 24th overall.
"There were a lot of superstars in some of Canada's teams before, but I think this was just a great young team coming together, a great bunch of guys in the dressing room," said Blue Jackets left winger Rick Nash, who scored twice in the final. "That was key. It was amazing how every game we got better."

"I always feel our emotional well as hockey players runs deeper than any other country," said coach Andy Murray, who also led Canada to victory in 1997 and 2003. "When Rick Nash was carrying that puck, he was carrying the emotions of 31 million Canadians."

but heres what they are saying in canada about it...

(this link has video highlights and the vod along with interviews.)

The play of Nash in particular also helped seal it. He was considered the most talented player who agreed to join the Canadian team before the tournament and his performance here matched that reputation.
His two goals in the gold medal were the difference and helped earn him the tournament's most valuable player award and a spot on its all-star team.
''I don't have to tell you that Rick Nash probably took over this tournament for us,'' said forward Mike Cammalleri. ''He stepped up and he was huge.
''That was some of the best hockey I've ever seen played.''
Said GM Steve Yzerman: ''He was spectacular. He was head and shoulders above everyone.''
''He's a hell of a hockey player,'' said forward Jason Chimera, Nash's teammate in Columbus. ''The guy was draped all over him. I couldn't score in an empty net with a guy draped on me like that and he scored it against a goalie.''
nash named tournament mvp and first team all iihf wc. also led canada in plus/minus

i watched the semis and finals. lets hope this guy can keep this rolling into next season. he dominated the wc during the lockout.

also of note chimmer also played very well on canadas 3rd line.
