Back from my first NHL game.

random thoughts:

* love the arena district. Well done Columbus.
* parking was super easy and did not have far to walk.
* loved Nationwide Arena. Spacious concourse. Love how close the upper bowl is to the ice. Like no bad seats or sight lines. Our seats were in the lower bowl. Sec 107.
* lots of fellow B’s fans at the game. The CBJ fans around us were nice and welcoming.
* The cannon going off nearly made me shit myself.
* Jackets appear to be young and still growing chemistry. While I was there to see my B’s it made me sad to hear the boo birds come out in the 3rd. Trust the process. It will happen.

Pitiful.

That Merzlikins contract was a huge blunder. Handing him a deal like that after what amounts to 1 pretty good season was stupid. That's a $5.4M anchor for the next five years. Yes, the D in front of him is putrid, but he lets way too many past him that a goalie earning his salary needs to stop. There's 1 or 2 "wtf" goals every game. I want to like him because he seems cool as shit and like a genuinely good kid in all of the stuff the CBJ put out behind the scenes, but he just isn't very good

This team is a bad combination of snake bitten, young, poorly coached, and just not that good right now.

If you look at the 5-5 stats, the XG had them at a half goal worse than the Bruins. Not great, not terrible. But, they had a bad luck goal off a defender’s stick, a bad luck breakaway goal off a blocked shot, a shorty on a soft goal, and then another soft goal. Paired with Ullmark channeling Marty Brodeur and the Jackets whiffing on a half-dozen one-timers and they end up getting smoked 4-0.

Agreed. I thought they played over their heads last year and was pretty excited to see what another year of experience would bring, but these last 3 games have been absolute shit across the board with no signs of life.

Just the way Sillinger has regressed is alarming.

They need to offer Barry Trotz a blank check.

The only sense I can make of that deal is that it was given to grease the skids for Johnny Hockey. Even then, surely he could have been had for less. Either way, one would assume he was brought in to add some sand paper and stiffen up their leaky blue line...but thus far...oofta.
