Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

I ask again, just who the fuck are these guys? Now alone in 1st in total points in the NHL with 50. Blackhawks have 49. Oh.... still 4 games in hand. 4! Also, leading the NFL in point differential 45-36 over the also surging Minnesota Wild (10-0-0) with a game in hand. Likewise, Jackets lead in fewest goals allowed 65-66; also over the Wild.

Blue Jackets | Veteran Scott Hartnell glad he stuck around for fun season

Forward Scott Hartnell told Blue Jackets management in September that he wanted to stand firm on the no-movement clause in his contract after allowing the club two months to shop him.

He had agreed to let general manager Jarmo Kekalainen explore trade options and, according to Sportsnet, even supplied a “decent-sized list.”

Hartnell ended the speculation, he said, “for the sake of my sanity” and to prepare for training camp. Some around the NHL, however, might have questioned that state of mind. Why not exhaust every opportunity to be jettisoned from a historic loser, a franchise that in the words of his coach gets “zero respect around the league”?

Three months later, Hartnell’s decision looks smart. The 34-year-old is fulfilling a valuable role on the ice and in the dressing room for one the NHL’s best teams.

The wing said he couldn’t be happier despite his reduction in playing time. He is contributing on both ends of the ice for a club that entered a game Tuesday against the Los Angeles Kings 20-5-4.

“We’re in a playoff spot, we’ve won nine in a row, what’s not to love?” Hartnell said . “It’s exciting to come to the rink every day. … Winning is fun. When you are winning, everything away from the rink is awesome — your personal life, your family life. It’s Christmas, everyone has smiles on their faces. It’s a great time right now to be a Blue Jacket.”

Hartnell has five goals and 12 assists, while playing at a plus-8 rating. Although he is averaging only 12 minutes, 38 seconds of ice time, coach John Tortorella still uses him in crucial situations and plays him on the league’s top-ranked power play.

This is Ohio pro sports we're talking about so allow me to point out the only negative.......as fate would have it they are in the deepest/toughest division in the NHL. The Met has 5 teams with over 40 points, the rest of the NHL has 7 total.

Additionally, being hot now doesn't mean much if you don't keep it rolling into the playoffs.

That said, it's nice to have a good team playing well. Hopefully it provides a long lasting jolt to the franchise regardless of how it ends.
