Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Is it me or does Mason not seem to be having any fun on the ice this year? Like maybe he's thinking too much and/or trying to carry the team on his back instead of just going out and playing the game?
i think you have to look back to his injury last year, consider the wall that you often see with similar knee injuries. i also think it goes way beyond mason. what ive seen this year are a few things
1-this team hasnt been hard to play against, put more bluntly theyve lacked much of the competitive juices and physical aspects of the game. we havent seen a tight checking game all year. we havent seen guys making the other team pay the price. we havent seen the physical aspects of the defense. we havent seen the d force guys wide, take a body, make the high traffic areas tough areas to play in.
2-nash. ill say it. hes played well something short of terrible but not good. hes left a lot to be desired despite the offensive impact this year.
3-commodore. sure he was hurt. she hes got some lingering issues. but when "conditioning" has been your problem for an extensive period of time, well and youve seen more than one "healthy scratch"
4-play from behind the net has sucked rocks. from mason to the defense. a lot to be desired there. its become obvious that weve seen more than one bad read a period (by skaters and netminders) and that other teams have begun to probe this area.
5-turnover, everywhere, from nearly everyone, in every zone. odd man rushes and easy turnovers rarely work out well...
6-etc and the common statements you always here...

:slappy: Other than that, they're on their way to the Cup...

Reading that assessment it's a miracle they are in the position they're in. But they'd better pick up the level of play or they won't be there long.

*sigh* Glad I couldn't watch tonight....

How can a team that looked so dominant defensively at times last year look so lost this year? I mean....the lineup changes weren't that significant. I'm just perplexed by what I'm seeing on the ice night after night. Hitch has got to be near meltdown alert, right?

It seems like the guys are trying to outskill teams like the Red Wings sometimes do without all the dirty work that goes with it.

Nash seems to just cruise around the defensive zone looking for a bad pass so he can take off for a breakaway.

the problem is they are relying to much on offensive firepower (anyone seen where they are in goals for or the pp?) and not playing within the system.

ysu-it could have been longer, much longer, though the team is on pace for a 100 point season... i also tried to highlight things that are easier to see and more "results" based than getting technical and confusing. think of it like saying osu hypothetically isi having problems against the pass and the response would be that the safeties on defense are two spread and other teams are attacking that. the root of the problem might be that the safeties are making bad reads, their positioning is wrong (two wide pushing out towards the numbers to far) and that the corners technique is bad allowing a free release out of their zone, etc...

you dont play within the system, it is not that hard. granted so "bad" is 100 point or so pace. and compared to what we saw last year at this time, a vast improvement...
