Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

The CBJ didn't get worse by getting Vermette. They gave up LeClaire (which I called BTW :groove: ) and a 2nd rounder which is key because they didn't give up a 1st.

He will fill a role. He's certainly more skilled than what most CBJ fans have been subject too, but we'll see if he can be the guy.

That said, I'm not entirely convinced the firepower is there yet. I want to see the lines for a game or two before I comment on that.

BTW someone needs to solve Huselius' Robert Langitis....if he isn't trying to stick handle through 5 guys, he's ringing posts left and right....

No kidding. His play has been driving me up the wall lately. Failing to bury his chances and gettng way too cute with the puck, leading to a ton of odd-man rushes.

Exasperating as hell.

you knew what you were getting in juice. guy who was a magician with the puck, he over passes and undershoots. granted that was part of the design in that a certain #61 would be freed up to bury chances.

word is tonight it will be (if he clears immigration/work visa is cleared) vermette/umberger/jake

1. a 2 minute 5 on 3 needs to sustain pressure on the Trashville goalie for more than 30 seconds. If your power play is so weak that you can't even get the puck into the zone for the first minute and a half, that's bad.

2. When your offense finally does decide to show up, don't stop playing defense.

3. Something tells me this last month is going to be kinda long for Jackets fans. this team doesn't have any kind of jump in this game.

That 5 on 3 was a disgrace. I've never seen anything like that in my life.

Nashville and C bus are teams headed in different directions I fear.

Nashville is playing every game like a playoff game and Columbus is skating around trying not to run into each other.

Fucking Blue Jackets look like shit.

good news though...

Anaheim doesn't play tonight and Edmonton is getting beat 3-1 right now.....Dallas doesn't play until late and even if they win the CBJ are still in the playoffs....

That said, they can't lose games to Trashville and expect to be in the playoffs...

yeah...look at this schedule too...

@ Nash tonight
@ Det on Saturday (it's in Detroit so that means probable L)
vs Boston on Tuesday (Boston is looking mortal these days but still a tough matchup)
vs Pit on Thursday (likely L)
AT Chi on Friday (ouch)
vs Detroit on Sunday (it's in Columbus, so that means maybe a W)
vs Chicago on Wednesday the 18th (ouch again)
Then finally on the 21st it's @ Florida which is the easiest game in the stretch but Florida doesn't suck either.

That's a hell of a two week schedule. I'll be shocked if they get any more than 6 points out of those 8 games. I've been wrong before, but damn....

If they get to the playoffs, they will have earned it.

Mase has come crashing back to earth lately as well.

Put this one to bed. They could be in 12th place by the end of next week.

Lordy be. Russell has been a liability out there tonight. Has a goal for the Preds and just seems lost tonight.

He did send Tootoo crashing into the boards and it looks like Tootoo might have a "lower body injury." Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

trading Modin for a used puck bag and a broken goalie stick would be a bargain at this point too....

interesting that the tootoo haul down resulted in a penalty and the modin did not. i felt that russel made a good play and modin was hauled down... i actually felt russel played and average game, rome was awful. he iced the puck, he made first passes, he turned the puck over. though after the tootoo incident he came and backed up kris.

team had llittle jump, i think some of it was anticipation of vermette. he didnt show and they showed up flat, no peca killed them on the dot, i dont knwo what the final FO numbers were but is was ugly.

well see about modin, when healthy he plays like a horse. cant question the guys effort, find me another athlete in ohio who played through three broken toes with out a single compliant. well see what the deal with the knee is.

nashville is playing very very well right now, as are the blues. columbus has 11 games left in the division this season. the panthers arent a walk through game, they are playing well... youve got tb, bruines and pens left out of the EC, and wild, flames to round out the schedule.

klesla should be back this weekend.

ive said it before and ill say it again, each passing day and game the intensity will ramp up, you have to match it.

for all the talk of columbus sucking still 5-4-1 in the last 10. not great, not bad. granted the preds have won 6 straight. the blues are surging 6-2-2 (64 pts), nearly everyone else behind columbus is faltering, the ducks are also 5-4-1 but they traded out of the playoffs imo, dallas didnt do much at the deadline -picked up morrison who post surgery went from a step slow to 2-3 slow(3-6-1), nashville held=as i mentioned they are surging though. edm made lateral moves (4-4-2). the flames added-but well see how that pans out long term i think you can deal with oj in the short term, they are a tough, team right now.

sharks 63-94
wings 65-94
flames 64-84
bhawks 62-81
nucks 63-74
preds 65-70
cbj 65-70
oilers 64-68
------------
stars 64-68
ducks 65-68
wild 63-67
blues 63-64

as it stands today 17 games left on the schedule. it looks about like 10-6-1 will do it.

ps on mase, high glove... high glove... he needs to get his hand positioning corrected. though hes looked human the defense has been slumping.

its going to be tough sledding with 16 of 17 games against teams currently hunting...

I thought the no-call on modin was right. Modin looked to lose his balance before the Pred touched him and seemed to slide into defender a bit making it look worse than it was.

The Russell penalty looked like a no-call to me, too, though. Lifted the stick that just happened to throw 22 off balance.

rome was awful. he iced the puck, he made first passes, he turned the puck over. though after the tootoo incident he came and backed up kris.

The 2nd goal came off a turnover by him. Tried to take the puck into the corner with 2 preds then whiffed on the puck.

Besides backing Russell up, he got into with someone else in the big scrum where Umberger was going at it with Weber. (I hate when officials try to grab a guy that's about to fight. Nothing like putting one guy at a disadvantage when the other guy is trying to pound his teeth in :shake:)

It was 5-8 at one point in the first. 5-14 at the end of the first. Brutal all night.

The guy can't catch a break these days.

Even against LA, I thought the energy was low. Last night reminded me a bit of the OSU b-ball team. Every loose puck seemed to end up with Nashville, out hit by a ton, lost most of the board battles. Not putting that extra effort to clear the puck. Casual.
